Default Headlights Malfunctioning.

I just purchased a 1992 Toyota Tercel, and whenever i turn the headlights on they always seem to go into highbeam mode. I try to push the lever towards me, away from me, they always stay on highbeam mode. Any ideas?

When you move the lever around, do the lights change at all? If they don't change at all, maybe the previous owner played around with the wires or you have a problem with the lever.

No, lights do not change at all, no matter what position i pull the lever towards. Any ideas how to figure out what the problem is, im kinda tight on money, so i dont want to go to a mechanic just yet.
