I'm just looking to improve my low end without making noise and am considering installing headers. I've just ordered an injen cai however I don't want to change the exhaust as I don't want noise. You have to admit that most setups are all about making lots of noise with little or no usefel gains. Have you guys just installed headers to your stock exhaust and if so which ones did you use and did they help your low end? When I look at the manufacturers they usually dyno with headers and an exhaust which shows losses at the low end and gains at the high end. I want low end gains and if it does better at the higher rpm's then great but my goal is low end gains without resorting to forced induction.

if you were to get a set of headers....i would at least go with a muffler swap, which means you dont have to go with a louder style muffler. Headers are part of the exhaust and swapping the muffler would just make the situation better to me, as the headers flow better and the muffler would then need to flow better to.

but whether you go with jba, ss autochrome, or gibson...i think the biggest problem for you is going to figure out how to install them, shops around here want 800+ to do it, so i scratched headers off my list. I dont think i want to deal with the hassle of installing them either as i would get lost somewhere

Im looking to do the same thing to my truck. CAI with headers. I have an 06 DC SR5 4 x 4. I looked under the truck yesterday day and spotted the muffler the size of a 55 gal. drum. If air dont come out of that nothing will. It a big muffler. Quite too.
Look at S&S, period. Somebody was talking about doing a group buy soon, in stainless.
They are a pain to install, but easy...just time consuming and you have to get over the hurdle of supporting your engine block on a floor jack for a little while, as you put one side on.
It's a lot easier to pull the motor mount, but you can do it w/o all that stuff...just takes time, determination and maybe a pencil & paper to write down everything you removed, so you can make sure you put it all back on properly.
I cant seem to get SSAutochrome to even reply to an e mail..are they still in bussiness?
There sales people dont reply, I sent 3 to them w/ no response.
I wish they would..I'm interested in some headers

SS Autochrome is one of many, many aftermarket manufacturers with a low grade product, hoping you'll think they're somebody else and buy their crap.
Talk to Loren at S&S Headers, he'll setcha up with some truly badass headers. Their customer service is great too, they took really good care of me when a set of poorly-welded headers slipped through to the coater and I haven't heard of any problems since then. They make great power.

*edit* barron, search through our old threads, IIRC dyno numbers were 18-20#, with the increase starting around 2100-2200 rpm and staying high through around 4000 rpm, then going back to a little above normal. If you want gains through the entire range esp. top end, add a Unichip to the headers. Verndog had some Jet Dyno charts on his website for various configurations.
