Default Headers Installation Cost

For those who had your headers installed by a shop instead of doing it yourself, how much did you pay?

The same shop that did my lift wants $1100 to install headers.

Default Re: Headers Installation Cost

What brand of headers? I had TRD headers installed which required some cutting and welding for $300. The TRD headers are the only ones that require welding as far as I know. $1100 sounds way too high unless there is something unique about your truck that makes it much harder to install the headers.

I watched a guy do it in his garage and it took about 5 hours. I'd say a muffler shop with a lift could do it in about 2 hrs easily. Any muffler shop should do it for about $200 for the JBA headers. You could do it yourself if you are patient and have the right tools. Check with some local muffler shops and see what they quote you.

im in this with cyberbilly as i called that shop, He said his rate was $85/hr and that it would be an 11 to 13 hours job, which he took from "the book". The book said 1100 bucks which he said sounded right. This is the 2nd quote of around that price as i went to the muffler shop in town and was told the same.

I am not and I don't.

Besides, this project is a little out of my league. Especially after trying to do the lift myself.

$400 at most. A 12 pack of guiness would pay me off.

Default Re: Headers Installation Cost

All the dealers in my area quoted me about the same on my header install - $1000 to $1250 and they quoted about the same amount of time from the "book". I checked with 3 muffler shops who quoted $200 - $350. I went with one with an excellent reputation who charged $300. They had done TRD header installs on Tundras before and knew exactly what was involved. I dropped the truck off at 8am and picked it up at 11am. They had the truck for 3 hrs and completed the job and I haven't had any problem and it's been 4 years now. The owner told me it normally takes about 2.5 hrs for the TRD header install on a V8 Tundra but they quoted 3 hrs just to give themselves a little cushion. JBA headers are a little easier to install than TRD headers since no welding is required and the tubes are shorter so they are a little easier to install. The book time of 11 hrs is a joke, but it's your money - spend it any way you like.

well i called trick trucks today right across the line in WV, which is 15 min from me. They said its really easy to do on the tundra as they can access everything with the inner fenders removed and that they would charge right at about 300 bucks...so i think i know where im going to have them done now! And with the XS power headers for $219 off their site im going that route!

11 hours labor? I did my own the first time in 10 (and yeah I did it twice), second time was about 6 as I recall. I am very meticulous with this type of work.

Word of advice, go buy OEM (Toyota) gaskets or you might also have to do it twice.

What's the saying, "Do it right the first time or expect to do it again!"

Granddaddy Cyberbilly used to say "No one has time to do it right, but they always find time to do it over."

I can't take credit for that. I think that I first saw it from KLS (a fellow TS member).

But, it's some very wise words.
