Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "S&S Long Tube Headers for 05 & 06 Tundras", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I see that S&S Headers are now offering their long tube headers to fit the VVT-I V8's in the 05 & 06's, PN# 5509. Anybody have any experience with these? I would love for these to be the answer to our prayer...Building torque in the 1K to 3K range.
If all you guys are wanting to buy these headers, I suggest we do a group buy so we can get them in Stainless steel . Loren (owner) said he WILL DO this if there are 20 people involved and can buy the materials in Stainless steel in bulk for cost effeciences to lower the costs.
The mild steel coated ones rust if ya don't know already. Anyone want to chime in to let these guys know. And show examples to expalin why stainless is the way to go.

I don't have any rust problems w/mine but I live in a non-rust state, however, if you live in a salt state or a ocean state, you may have issues, even w/the coating being on there.
Stainless is always the way to go, if you can get enough people together for Loren to build them in stainless, that is what I would do.

No doubt about it...only do the stainless. I just uploaded a couple pics of what mine look like after 21k miles.

Thanks, now hopefully everyone else can see your pics and know mild steel is not the way to go. I got a kick out of somone promoting the Thorley headers saying how the mild steel is okay. and something about the some versions of SS isn't worth for them doing. anything is better thatn coated up 1010 mild steel with no extra additives/properties in the metal itself.
Its just about cost and how stainless takes a extra work welding, bending to fab them up. Then theres the cost , which is more.
