Default Water pump replacement instructions

Hi All,

I searched the site and couldn't locate what I need, so I was wondering if anyone out there has any more information about how to replace the water pump on a 2001 Tundra V8.

I have printed the timing belt replacement instructions, and have the timing belt bits and the water pump off of the truck.

I bought all the parts from one of the vendors here - except I discovered that I need FIPG, two o-rings, a rubber thermostat gasket, oil plug crush washer and two gallons of Toyota red coolant.

Are there any tips or tricks other than R&R the part? What are the instructions for putting the FIPG on - do I mate the parts wet, or do I let them tack first?

Thanks for any advice, hopefully I can start putting her back together once I get the rest of the parts from my local dealer.

Thanks,
Charlie

Hi,

I downloaded the FSM pages, so I think I am all set on the water pump questions. Looks like you need to reinstall the parts while the FIPG is wet and fresh, andy more than 5 minutes and you need to start over.

If anyone has reassembly tips, I'm still interested to hear them.

If not, I'll just reassemble it all based on the FSM and what I learned from disassembly.

Something to note, don't forget the two o-rings (96761-24019 and 96761-35035) and a new thermostat gasket in addition to all of the other parts you need for the job.

Based on the FSM, it looks like it is possible to install the cam seals by hand. Does that fit with what you experienced?

How about the front seal (behind the crankshaft timing pulley)? Do you need the SST? I'm having trouble finding installation instructions in the FSM pages.

Overall, removing the AC compressor is a bit of a pain in the neck, as well as removeing the DS cam cover. Other than that, the disassembly job is pretty straightforward.

Charlie
