Lightbulb Drive train vibration

By the way this truck has 16500 miles on it and this vibration started almost exactly at 15000 miles. This truck also is a 4 X 2.

There should be none. Get it checked.

Tim:

According to the drivetrain diagnosis section in my Ford service manual, the 2 things to look for when a vibration occurs suddenly are 1. A wheel balance weight that has been thrown off, or
2. A driveshaft balance weight that has been thrown off.

The cause may be something else but these are the things to look at first.

If you're missing a wheel weight, you should be able to see where the weight used to be. You will have to look at both sides of each wheel. The same is true for the driveshaft.

Another possible cause would be a tire that has slipped on the rim and is now out of balance. They will do it.

Tires can slip on a rim but you have to either take off "very hard" or stop "very hard" for it to happen. If you suspect this put a crayon line on the tire and a corresponding line on the rim and check it after several days. Any slippage will be easily seen.
