Default How Do I Change Auto Transmission Fluid?

Can I just drain the old fluid and then add fresh fluid?

Yes. It will take about 4 quarts. I do a drain-and-fill every 15k miles.

i am waiting to buy a 2009. every on this site says there is NO dip stick to check the trans oil and thus no way to add fluid. i hope all of you complain loud so the 09 has this feature that all automatics have had forever, except o7-8 tundra.

For $10 you can read the factory repair manual https://techinfo.toyota.com/
The procedure for checking the fluid level and changing the fluid is in the manual.

On my 02 Tundra, it took about 3.5 to 4 qts. to drain & refill. It's good to do it about every 10-15k miles once you reach the 50k mark or so. I towed quite a bit with mine, so i'd do it almost every other oil change. Which was every 6k or so back then. It's soooooo easy.

Be sure to use the right fluid. If it's a 2000 tundra, you need dextron ii or iii. I used valvoline d-iii on mine & every time i did it, i noticed the tranny shifted much better. And the fluid looked redder each time as well.
Keep it red, and it won't $hit the bed.

Manual is wrong. I measured what came out of mine and put that much back in. It was 4 quarts. I have the V8. The V6 might be a little different.
