Update on my vibration problem 30 - 40 mph; got my front diff. replaced and the vibration is gone. To the guy who's dealer isn't up on the situation; my dealer has already done a couple of these, Tom Wood Toyota in Indianapolis 317-298-2900; ask for Becky in service. For the guy in Southern California with only a 1000 miles: maybe they have them fixed now but it is possible that since you purchased in May and you are in So Cal. that you have not seen cool enough temps to have the problem; (it goes away when diff. fluid warms up), hopefully your's doesn't have it but I would pay close attention this winter. Anyway, Toyota has a fix for this problem everybody, too bad it happened in the first place; I am disappointed that it did, I had 2 ford trucks previously and never had any problems, I thought I was stepping up in quality and refinement with Toyota. Have to admit the engine is great.

To Teryd, The name of my dealership is Hoffman Toyota in Avon CT. tel:860-651-0207. The tech rep for the area had to be there for the approval to replace the front diff, works great so far!

I also have an 03 Tundra with the vibration. I have taken it in 3 times now and kept getting the run around. Had the oil changed the other day and brought up the problem again and this time my service guy said he would install a new front diff. I should be getting my truck back by thursday and will let you all know how mine turns out.

The more of these we get fixed the easier it will be to show other members and toyota service dept. techs what needs to get done to fix this problem. It is very unfortunate we have to go through so much hassle from a company like Toyota to get something so noticable fixed.

So if I'm understanding this correct, the problem was prior to Oct. of 2002. So if my truck has a manufacture date of 5/03 there should be no worries of this issue?

Just want to keep tabs of any issue with truck, as it seems more prominent in 2002 and early 2003 models.

I have an '02 with the front diff vib from 30-40. It was the worst in the winter, but now that summer has come and gone I've realized that it never went away during the warm months. HAd the front brake TSB done this week, and reiterated my concern for hte front vinration.

THe ysaid it will never go away, but should not be noticeable in the summer. They are doing the front diff swap. I'll have it in next week and post the results

Toyota knows about it, he said they get a lot of complaints. As to why they don't fix it?????? There are a lot of little issues with the Tundra that Toyota doesn't seem to interested in fixing.
If Toyota doesn't seem interested in fixing these problems, I wonder if they will have a change of heart after a letter writing campaign to someone like Consumer Reports. If everyone were to detail the problems they've had with their Tundra and mail it off to CR with the same subject title, MAYBE there would be some negative PR given and Toyota would be forced to respond.

Equate it to "calling your Congressman". Anybody wanna give it a try?

Absolutely the thing to do. I sent toyota corp an flaring email. What has happened in our society is that we have let the companies control us (consumers) because we continue to spend and spend. The power is with the consumer not the companies (right now its warped) We need enough people to hammer Toyota corp on this. Of course even then (given the amount of money we all continue to spend) they may not fix it. Once interest rates go up (as they will in the future) and car spending goes down, all these companies will be starved and tables will turn. For now I've resorted to threating them with letters to BBB, and Consumer Reports. If more people do it a TSB should be issued, but I wouldn't hold my breathe. Its is very dissapointing to have a new 30K vehicle that makes noises from the diff. Unaccpetable if you ask me, and aggravating as hell they way its being handled. Of course I'm hoping my Toyota lasts longer then my dodge or f-150 did....so if the only problem I ever have is a vibration I'll be happy!

Default nothing wrong here

i drive a 03 4x4 and no vibrations at all. to me it sounds like the front diffs had been setup up wrong at the assembly line. well dont shoot me for saying it but thats might be what we get with american assembly lines. my girls 02' 4runner is jap built and it might as well be a lexus cause its perfect! in my eyes assembly origin makes all the diffrence. just feel lucky our yotas are put together here in usa and not in mexico like some chevy trucks are good luck and give those dealers HELL

[quote=Boxer]I have my truck since the beginning of December and shortly after that I developed a vibration up front on the passenger side of the drivetrain. You can feel this vibration through the floorboards and gas pedal from 30 to 45 mph, I have been to the dealer twice and first they never felt the vibration and the second time they acknowledged the vibration but could not determine the problem. I don't want to spend my first couple of months with the truck going back and forth to the dealer and have chose to live with it till the spring. The dealer has posted a 'product flash report" in their system and according to them if toyota Canada receives 4 or 5 of these with the same issue of vibration they will investigate the situation.

Anyways I'm dissapointed I just sold a 89' Toy extended cab 4x4 and was extremely pleased with that vechicle -> no vibrations as such but now driving a new truck for the past two months and feeling this vibration I can't help but frown, I'm disappointed. Just venting I guess and wonder if anyone else feels the same with this issue or any other issues of dissapointment.

Regards,
Boxer

I don't kow if your problem is the same? but I had the Dunlop Grandtrek oem tires on my 2000 and it vibrated as you describe especially when cold. I did have the similar problem with two new Dodge Dakotas, I mounted LTX's on them and the problem went away.. Most OEM tires are junk and after awhile the tires all seem to have what we call a tread seperation, belts seperate within the tire causing a flat spot on the tire as you put miles on it you can feel it with you fingers by running them around the tire, this little flat spot, you or a trained eye may be able to detect it on the edge of the tire. It is more prevelant on cold mornings and at certain speeds ( untill tire warms up or turns faster making the vibration smaller, it is still there) Rotating the tires just changes the location of the vibes, Tread seperation is a dangerous thing to have on tires & it is very common on cheap OEM tires, A good way to test for it, is to purchase a set of LTX's and if vibes are still there return the tires and say you do not want them & they will refund your $$.. A experienced tire man can find the problem of tread seperation very quickly. This tire problem is very very common with oem tires and even some new tires that are mfgd with poor quality control.

Hope that you all keep pounding away. My 2000 had vibs from day 1 and could never get them to go away entirely. Worse thing is the vibs were intermittent and seem to be dependant on temp or weight/load. Had it in to many times to count and even had the regional rep involved twice. What a waste of time that was. Hopefully, for the record that truck had been documented enough times to help the cause.
After 3 years I have had enough.... will deliver truck to dealer Sat and move on and hope the new owner isn't as sensitive as I am.
Wish you all the best of luck!!

I did ask the service manager if this was a redesigned drive shaft and he said he wasn't sure about the "insides" of the drive shaft (huh, whatever) but he did say it was a assembly fix by toyota and I didn't prompt him anymore. My truck seems to be corrected, no more vibration, I'll keep you posted if it redevelopes when the cold weather hits.
