Question Tundra 2000 specs

Hello,

I'm looking for a used Tundra. Does anyone know where I could find specs for the 2000 Tundra 4x4 Access cab? Are there major differences with the 2003 model? Are there any issues on the 2000 Tundra I should be aware of before I buy?

Many thanks for your help.

Stef

Post Tundra Specs. ?

I recently bought a used 2000 Tundra SR5,
I love it, but
I'm curious as to where I can find
a listing of its specs. that the dealer could not provide.
Looking for Horsepower, Torque, MPG, basic stuff,
so I know what can/should be modified.
Any help I'd appreciate, thanks.

I'll take some pics when it doesn't look like a giant iceberg, flyin' down the highway.

Thanks for the link... SATundra, but I was looking for more customized information on my model, like I said I bought it used, so I'm trying to
figure out what if any mods were done to it, cuz the steering alignment blows.

Looking for more performance info on 2000 4x4 Sr5 Access Cab model
and advice on exhaust/filter kits, tires, interior/exterior mods, anything to make
it look and perform better.
Thanks though.

That’s not necessarily true you know. Read No Loss in any power to date with mods. and see what this guy found with a simple exhaust upgrade and air box modification.

ehhh i doubt it's a 20 hp gain. i installed a K&N drop in and true duals and didn't notice any gain, and i lost a little torque. the fact that he kept the resonator and used smaller pipe prevented him from losing torque.

*your milage may vay*
The fact that his 1/4-mile went down from 16.2 to 15.2 at 2000 feet is proof that his truck has an improvement in both torque and horsepower. He even said his truck will more readily spin the tires from a stop than before again supporting that he gained low-end torque as well. What he did differently was he modified the air box inlet tube and like you said used smaller pipe for the dual exhaust along with a higher flow muffler.

I myself lost a significant amount of low-end torque with the TRD duals, which have two 2.25" pipes from a glass packed type muffler. It was enough of a difference for me to not be able to spin my tires in any situation even in a turn. I can readily light them up now if I wanted to in a turn with the stock exhaust system. I don’t have the TRD duals anymore!

Don't buy a 2000!!! This first model year is a lemon!!! Be prepared for guaranteed 02 sensor replacements plus all the other nuisance stuff such as the seat belts, antenna, etc. I lost a power steering pump & rack-and-pinion at 358 miles. After that it's been downhill!

A number of us have 2000 model years (myself included) with few to no problems.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

I went 200K on my 2000 with the following issues:

Brake vibration that could never be cured for long
O2 sensor failure about every 50K
exhaust manifolds cracked (put on JBA)
bad Mass Air Flow sensor at 80K (due to K&N?)
broke the spider gears in the rear end at 80K (I think due to driving truck 2000 miles home with a bad MAF)

Over all that was the best truck I have ever had, so I bought a 2005

Default 2000 Tundra as well

Other than replacing the O2 sensors (which took me about 15 min), no issues at all. It beats the '98 chevy I had which required numerous seal replacements, windshield wipers with a mind of its own, and reclining handles that broke six times.

A lemon? Hardly.

One replaced O2 sensor (+ headers for $450, but that's a mod, not req'd)

- $100

Regular maintenance (including fluids, tires, etc.)

- $xxxx.xx (I'd argue this amount is same/similar for any 4wd tundra or any truck for that matter)

Upgraded front brake pads and turned rotors to remove slight glazing of rotors hauling a big load over Tioga pass...

- $125

~ 117k miles.

You do the math. I will be honest that small issues like the weak door checks, weak seat belt retractors and horn could be better. But to call a great, reliable, smooth running truck a lemon for such things seems over the top to me.

I will be honest and say I probably would have gone with an 01 or newer for the above reasons. The only other reason I'd consider 01 and newer? color-keyed tailgate handle (mine's black). But my '00 is no lemon. It's a great truck!

2000 = First year truck came out but production began in mid 99. 2000 Tundra's Has had serious issues such as brakes(big time problem's with calpers make sure you find a used tundra with this tsb performed), o2 sensors(haven't had problems with mine) plastic part's that are poor quality mainly fog light's replaced and side markers that leaked really beyond all that not any serious issues to report. Also if you find one with over 90k on miles make sure your timing belt's have been replaced..

2001= Airbags changes, tailgate rail's has plastic part's added and a colored keyed rear handle on limited models (only)

2002=Slight revision done on rear seat more padding added on rear a little bit more incline

2003=Front end grill updates and a cheap plastic bumper

2004= No updates to report

2005=serious power train updates such as new vvti v8 and 5 speed tran's and revision done to headlights, tailights ,navigation system from camry etc etc...
