Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "DIY: ATF Flush, With Pics.", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
This new type Oil Filter adds more profit to Toyota Parts Div./ TMS's Bottom line.
And adds a considerable potential margin for error to respective OCI's.
As many have eluded to.
Call me a cynic.

And if you buy into KR's usual sales pitch, you'd wonder why they needed to come up w/ a new filter in the first place. Afterall, your truck can run up to a billion miles w/ the old OEMs (oh yeh, assuming you never use syn. oils and avoid flushing your tranny.)
I'm planning to do an ATF flush (24 qts of royal purple max atf baby!) and I was reading another post that is it possible that 4 quarts can be flushed out instead of 2 quarts? I want to get most of the old fluid out and replenish it with synthetic.

The 4.7 is an older engine - derived from the 1989 Lexus LS400 V8. Toyota is phasing in cartridge oil filters on it's new engine designs and redesigned models like the 5.7L Tundra V8 and 3.5L Highlander V6.
Old engine Not really still used on the current 08 Tundra but hey Toyota goal's on this new filter crap is bottom line $$$ not performance
I think the Oil filter on my 2008 Highlander Hybrid 3.3 is a spin on type im happy with that set up serves my need's just fine plus I don't do oil changes any more Dealership does all that Getting too old for this type stuff
Why don't you tell us why you're so opimistic about Toyota's engineering designs? Its clear from the membership that your information runs with plenty of omissions.
I don't know why everyone keeps flaming KathyRicks. I have owned Toyota trucks since 1985. I buy them for their high reliability. Therefore I don't understand all of this babying on maintainence. You guys must be converts from the "big 3" and used to this stuff. Every yoda I have had got well over 100K so I don't know where the 100K and it's over number came from. I don't use synthetic oil either, another waste of money. OK so all of you overzealous shade tree mechanicx can flame me now, but I am speaking from experience, and that is why I buy Toyotas and not chevys. If you added all of the extra money you spend on sythetics and over maintaining your vehicle over the years you could buy a new one. Just follow the scheduled maintainence and use approved fluids. Good write up on the procedure that this thread is about tho.
I am not a "Big 3 Convert" I have owned a Toyota prior to my current 2007 Tundra.
Sanosuke!
yea toyota hear as well and I agree take care of your toyota and the pay back is relibilty for the life span. I think a few question the methods lately for example no dip stick on the transmission is lame .

Have fun with trannies that have no dipstick?
You seem to be a Toyota fan, hopefully you stay the same with the shoddy workmanship on the newer Toyotas...
