Remove the sensor and gently spray the electrodes with CDC Electrode cleaner (or like product). Allow to dry and re-install. Be careful. Don't use the oil type filters;TRD, etc.

Is this something that gets dirty? Maybe I'm wrong here but is that not located after the air filter?

correct, but it is still going to get dirty over time, especially if you have a k&n filter that needs to be oiled, that oil can dirty up the MAF.

Cool, sounds like it's something very easy to clean. It is simple as spray on and let dry?

Nice! I was just getting ready to replace the air filter so I'll make sure to knock this out at the same time.

In addition to what you mentioned, checking and maintaining your tire pressure is the first thing I would do to increase your gas mileage. I consistently get 18-19 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving with my V8. I keep my tires at 35 psi all around. Tires normally lose around 2 psi per month or more. Tire size can also play a role if you have huge tires. Other things you might consider: syn fuids, spark plugs every 30k, throttle body clean every 30k, fuel injector cleaner every 5-10k, keep drive train lubed for 4x4s, keeping highway speeds less than 70 mph.

Swapped out my air filter for a WIX today and cleaned the MAF sensor.

I was very surprised at how much crud was on the wires.

[quote=apimpdad;885022]correct, but it is still going to get dirty over time, especially if you have a k&n filter that needs to be oiled, that oil can dirty up the MAF.[/quote

K&N oil on MAF...is URBAN MYTH.

For those that care to know hear the other side of the coin.

MAF's get dirty from the finer dust that gets through EVERY AIR FILTER OUT THERE. It is just dust. The dust really has no impact on its operation. It the oily soot build up from the crankcase blowby that ends up on the Heater portion of the MAF that is the real problem. And this varies by engine and type of use.

K&N oil is too viscous and tacky when dry to end up on the MAF. Period. A myth. Many other reason are found for failed MAF's

Some don't like the Cold air Intake designs of K&N's. Possibly justifyably so. The round turbin design of these non-OE shaped air filters are known to interfere with the OE A/F calibration of a non modded setup on some vehicles.

But the K&N drop in air filters are proven. They are lifetime and save money.
The only reason I have been using them for 17 years. And never a MAF issue

I'm not advcocating K&N's for all, but merely telling those not considering them because of a MAF issue's that this is the wrong reason to not consider them.

I use CRC MAF spray Cleaner. Cheap enough from any auto parts store. Yes, yu CAN use Electrical Contact spray from Radio shack.
Which actually costs more money.

I saw one post that said they had an issue with a MAF and described using Brake Cleaner on his MAF. That's just crazy and irresponsible.

And, I'm sure that same member would blame a K&N filter for his failing MAF!!!

I clean my MAF's approx every 10-15K.
But they are always clean any way as observed from the spray cleaner runoff.

If you had crud on the wires, then you really accomplished something with the cleaning. Never have seen anything on mi
