Default tall oil filters vs. shorter oil filters?

Hi, at one point Sequoia oil filters were tall, now the are short. Going to wal mart shows the are all the newer shorter size, same as the dealer. Can't find the taller ones on ebay either. Plus the ones at the dealer are made in thailand.

Wazzup with that? What are good brands? Wix? How do I know which ones have drainback valves & which do not?

(X-posed in Sequoia forum, figured on better luck here)

Oversized filters is nice to have but then when measuring flow every filter is unique wrt pressure. So I would stick with OEM sized aftermarket filters unless you think your engine UOA results show some wierd numbers.

Wix, Puralator, Napa are all good filters. You can get oversized ones if you taked to someone who knew more about filters than me.. Call up brian at FleetFilter.com and ask him to recommed you oversized filters.

W/o sounding like KR the Toy Bot (KRTB for short), I stick w/ OEM. I think a lot of people mistakenly take larger/taller filters to be better than smaller/shorter filters. I use M1 or Puralator 1. KR the Bot will recom, predictably, OEM.

Toyota and other car makers have been downsizing oil and air filters for
decades. It's nothing to worry about. A smaller oil filter is actually beneficial because you get quicker oil pressure when starting the engine. Wierd things can go wrong with aftermarket filters. Example: The whole filter shell blew off the engine of one Toyota owner who used a Purolator Pure One instantly destroying his engine. The gasket of Fram air filters compresses and deforms over time allowing unfiltered air to enter the engine. Stuff like that. Toyota filters have heavy duty construction features that eliminate problems of like these.

I've read in this forum where owners wanted longer/bigger filters because of more filtering area.
You can find a larger filter for your Toyota but it is not recommended. I would just go with the right size.
I agree with Kathy. Good post.
