She knows about H-body V8 swaps, so you never know what kind of driver she might be.

So I had a new toyota oil filter in the garage and with 500 miles on the oil, I spun the fram off, and put on the toyota filter. HOLY COW! My idle oil Px indication is now at 1/4.

The fram was $3.50 and the Toyota was $5.75

Could you simply spin your old filter off and put on a new one? Wouldn't some oil trickle out? I just switched to Mobil 1 10W-30 about a month-two months ago and I figure the oil is still fresh (1500 miles or so), thus I would like to just switch out the oil filter that I had put on there (Walmart-Fram) to the premium OEM ones. Also, I'm about to buy the 10-pack from Toyota/Dallas (TRD Parts4you) and I want to make sure I have the right part number. 90915-YZZD3 sound good to you guys?

the oil filter is installed above the oil level when the engine is off. it will dribble a small amount then stop. loose whats in the filter plus the small dribble

not sure about that part number though

First and foremost many Toyota filters are no longer Made in Japan.

They come from Indonesia/Malaysia/India. I would not put them on my Toyota, I would prefer to stick a Wix/PureOne which is made in USA.

The 90915-YZZD3 oil filter is designed by DENSO and is made in a DENSO factory in Thailand. Toyota has owned the DENSO company for over 40 years.

Actually, the DENSO corporation has been in Toyota's stable since Dec. 1949.

So this would put them at 50+ years in Toyota's stable, not 40+.

Sanosuke!

The best time to change your Fram oil filter is when it's in the shopping cart...

I wonder if the wal-mart auto centers use fram filters when they do an oil change. If I recall fram is just about the only filter wal-mart sells in their auto area.

That's what i'm doing as soon as my OEM are gone.

Are you running amsoil oil as well?

I just got a shipment of it. What OCI are you running? Have you done an oil analysis with it?

.

If I can find it ... some "oil filter prefectionist geek" ... did a breakdown on all the main filters on a Subaru site.

If I remember ... Mobile 1 filters came in 1st ... Amsoil filters came in 2nd ... maybe OEM came in 3rd ??

I will see if I can find it.

SOS

Fram filters were pretty far down the list if I remember.
.
----------------o-------------- UPDATE BELOW ------------o------------

Here is the link --> My own humble Subaru oil filter study - Service & Maintenance - NASIOC

Correct ... After another quick look ... Amsoil filters came in 1st in this test.

Here are some more "Oil & Filter Links"....FYI

Used Oil Analysis - Gasoline - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Amsoil or Mobil 1. Which is better?
AMSOIL vs MOBILE

Moral of the story ... stay with a "synthethic" and still change it often to keep the contaminates and cookies out. ..

SOS

PPS ... what say you ... Ms. Kathy Ricks on the study .. you seem pretty savy on this stuff ???

Actually I just put my first EAO57 a few weeks ago and I put in Penzoil Platinum oil with it. I'm debating on using amsoil but the PP or mobil1 is so easy to pick up at wal-mart.

What about K&N oil filters. Are they considered premium?
