Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Engine RPM's drop too low After hard acceleration", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have on a couple of occasions felt and watched my RPM's drop way too low ~5-600 after a hard accelaration. It usually happens when letting off just after a shift. I realize the computer is probably not reacting fast enough, but wanted to know if everyone else is experiecing this condition. Thanks for any input.
I've never watched mine, but I will now. Why is 5-600 RPM too low? Enquiring minds want to know.

Mine idles around 500-600 rpm warm no matter how I drive and around 700-800 rpm at idle I think. I never really noticed a difference in rpm levels though after a full throttle run but then again I don’t do full throttle runs that much either. I don’t need too!

To make you feel better. Mine idles in "D" at 400rpm and 550 in "N". I've watch my rpm numerous times and do noticed what you mentioned. I see it when I accellerate and then brake to come to a stop and just before it gets below 4-5mph my rpm drops down to 350 to 400rpm then when the truck comes to a complete stop the rpm raise back up to 450rpm and clowl drops to 400rpm in "D". I think it's normal. Never has the engine chug or shake at that low of an rpm though.

2000s idle about 100-150rpm lower than 2001-up Tundra V8s
Also, the tach is not all that accurate at low speeds. On FYR145s 2000, with the tach indicating around 450-500 rpm an OBD-II scan tool showed the RPM was actually 600...
