Thanks. I thought you might have something I don't have and want. What you say makes perfect sense.
I noticed in the control schematic that the fuel pump is energized when we turn the key to the "Start" position. That's why it takes a bit of cranking to start the engine. It takes a second or two for the fuel pressure to rise enough to allow starting. My last truck was a Ranger. The pump was activated when the key was in the "On" position making for an instantaneous start.
This cranking business bothered me too because it reminds me of an engine that needs a tuneup...especially new ignition points in the distributor or an adjustment of the dwell angle.
