Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "2007 4x2 DC 4.7 Transmission", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My truck has 1,800 miles on it and has had a stuttering in the transmission since purchased new. This occurs when the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. It feels like three engagements in rapid succession. All other gears seem fine. With just over 100 miles on it, I took it to Toyota Direct and was told that everything seemed normal, that the Tundra's torque may be what I am noticing. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea about what could be going on?

Tell the stealership to give u an engg answer. Prompty make an defect on the NHTSA website and on edmunds, people need to get together with complaints to butt-kick Toyota, else they simply don't learn.
Rent or test drive another 4.7 2007 or 08 Tundra to see if it behaves the same or not. Or take your Tundra to another dealer for a second opinion. If you are convinced your truck is shifting odd and two dealers don't agree with you, then you may have to make a videotape or DVD of the abnormality and go through the dispute process outlined in the warranty papers that came with your vehicle.
I second the video taping of the anamoly and present that to the stealership. They should either replace the vehicle in total or fix the problem. I have read many new Camry owners have their entire vehicles replaced becoz of flaring tranmissions. Good luck and bug them while there is less miles on the odometer.
Shift to S mode and put it in "1" .. if it is all well there, shift up to "2" and if the shift can be felt smoothly from 1 to 2, its okay. Now try "3" and see if you get 2 shifts between 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.
If you get rough shifting between those gears, yup, time to see the dealer.
Thanks to everyone for the replies. At first I was just searching for a clue as to what could be going on, but the replies led me to return to the dealer. I just stopped today after work and was told that there is a TSB and that parts should be available by Friday. Sorry I did not get more info, but when I do I will definitely post. Kinda sucks that we have to investigate these things on our own and that Toyota does not contact us. They have no problem hounding us for a survey. I did try the manual shifting and felt the same thing.
Also let me add that I love the Tundra!!
On a side note, driving home today I saw a Honda Insight with a license plate that read "savn gas"...the only thing it was pulled over in a residential speed zone (25 mph). Thought it was funny...I wonder how much gas their "savn" now if they include the $80 ticket into their transportation cost. It may be equivalent to not speeding and driving a Tundra.
Almost forgot Sanosuke...I did try that when I first noticed the rough shifting, but it still happened in manual mode. Thanks again. Again, I'll post Friday or Saturday regarding the TSB. I hope it fixes the problem.
Dropped truck off this afternoon as scheduled and was told that there is GOOD news and BAD news. I was told the BAD news is that there is no TSB for the 4.7 transmission, but the GOOD news is that they will look at it anyway. I was kinda pissed, but kept it inside for the time being. I was told that they would connect to some device to read the transmission...We'll see what they discover and I'll update after I get the truck back.
Picked up truck...Service Invoice reads..."Road tested the vehicle and verified complaint service bulletin does not apply to this vehicle e-mailed field engineer to see if there know problems related to this vehicle waiting on his reply when we find out we will contact customer" ...exactly how it read. I asked when I would be contacted and was told that it could take a while. I will talk to the Service Manager tomorrow.

All a cock and bull story.. You will wait for 1 month and have put 1k-2K miles and then its ur baby. Keep barking and only then they would listen, tell them you have made a complaint on NHTSA too and talked to TMS directly. You need to keep the other side on their toes, keep bugging them..
I have the SAME EXACT problem. it does not happen it I go real fast off the line, it seams to be worse when you are going slower. Toyota here says they can not replicate this issue. I will be taking it back again too. It seams to be worse after warming up.
