This is a discussion thread titled "TRD Duals Install instructions", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
No real need for instructions. I didn't personally install mine...although I watched and realized that I could have totally done it myself. Took the guy I bought it from approx 30 minutes and that was because the hangers were giving him some trouble...but nothing a little WD40 couldn't fix.
It is very easy. There really isn't anything that would cause you a problem. Just make sure you put the gaskets on where the 2 pipes come out of the muffler. Other than that...there really isn't anything I can think of that you could mess up. It took me about 45 minutes to do mine by myself.
You should purchase a new clamp for the exhaust. The old one is a arse pain to get off.
I used a dremel on mine and saved it. It's a self locking nut on the clamp it's not easy to get off. BUY the clamp and its a 30 min job tops. Don't buy it it might take another ten minutes.
Its certainly pretty easy though. WD-40 spray all the rubber grommets then start the un-install. When you re-install it'll slip right on.
Keep everything semi-loose just tight enough to keep in place, then line it all up and tighten.

that nut is welded to the v-clamp. Loosen the bolt and you will be cool! Dont use the dremel!
Mine twisted while removing....just a heads up. I cut (barely) the nut and got it completely off ...
I was in a hurry so there sure could have been an easier way.
The bolt is self threading and has a taper on it which caused mine to twist. YEAH, I knew the nut was welded on.
Maybe mine caught some burrs? Not sure, but it was twisting and I wanted to re-use it. and DID...
I am attempting to install my TRD duals today. I noticed when I started trying to loosen the bolt that it must have been twisting also because the bottom part of the bolt isn't moving. I've since stopped trying and doused it again with WD40.
Any suggestions at this point? If it's twisted a little already, is there anyway it's going to come off now?
It always sucks getting stuck at the first part of a project!
Yep, it worked like a charm. Now I have the exhaust installed and it sounds and looks great.
Got one question though. Is the new muffler supposed to fit all the way against the flange like the old one did? My gasket was in decent shape but I couldn't get the flange of the TRD to go over the the gasket like the old exhaust was. I put it up against it tight and tightened up the clamp. Everything runs good but I'm afraid there could be an exhaust leak there.
I was also looking for install directions, only becuase I have a after market exhuast that was installed by a local shop and really not that pleased with it. I did make sure that they retained all the stock hangers but they cut the exhuast just forward of the stock muffler when they installed the after market. The mount flange on the back of the resonator is still in tact. Would this be where the trd exhuast would connect. If somone had pictures it would sure answer a lot of questions. Thanks in advance. Don
stagger, cant say for sure if it is supposed to fit like stock or not. you can look at all the photos under exhaust and see if there is a photo of the connection you are speaking of. Maybe a new gasket is what you need.
Good luck.
.....from my Dual install last weekend. Send me a PM and I will scan them and e-mail them to you from work tomorrow. I'll put them in Acrobat so make sure you have Acrobat Reader installed first. (It's free, you know.....)
