Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Brake Light On?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just noticed this morning that my brake light went on when I hit my brakes a little hard.
I noticed this before they changed my O2 sensor but didn't think much of it. It seems to only happen in cold rainy weather that's the only other time it's happened.
What could be the problem?
It's only happened twice i the last couple of months. It doesn't happend when it's warm, I've tried it already.
Check your brake fluid level. The level is VERY sensative to making the light come on, even an 1/8" low can cause it to come on. Happened to me too, I added a little bit of fluid, no light since then and thats been almost a year ago.
Remember that cold shrinks, could be just enough to trip the light. Let us know.

I checked mine at lunch and it was at the min level. I'm assuming that the level dips when I break plus the shrinking that SA talked about causes the light to go on!
