Exclamation Gas Mileage Problems

i have a 2000 tundra limited that i bought used with 37,000 miles on it. about a month and 350 miles after i bought it i took a trip from burbank, ca to las vegas and got around 16.7 mpg cruising at 75-80 mph. i just figured out what my mileage was again last night with around 65% free way miles and now im getting about 14.5 mpg. any one else experience this problem or know where i should start to try and troubleshoot it?

Based on my experience, you're right in the ball park with your mileage numbers.

As far as the difference between your local mpg and the Vagas trip mpg, I would be willing to bet it's most likely due to the oxygenated fuel you have in California. My mileage always drops duiring the winter months (Nov. - Feb.) due to the oxy fuels.

Default about my mileage

The 16.5 at 75-80 is not bad at all, especially if you were closer to 80 than 75..14.5 in mixed city driving-is not bad.I get 14 mpg-no better and sometimes a little worse in city New Orleans driving and about 17 or so at 65-70 on the highway.Charlie Some folks claim 20 mpg on the highway with the V-8,but I never come close to 20.Luck,Charlie

I have made 3 trips from PHX to Vegas 2 WD at 55 to 75
May 2002
1. Up 17.8 Texaco $ 1.379
1. Back 18.3 Union 76 $ 1.439

Sept 2002
2. Up 19.8 P 66 $ 1.359
2. Back 20.4 Union 76 $ 1.419 Wind pushing me

Feb 2003
3. Up 17.1 P 66 $ 1.499 Bucked strong wind
3. Back 16.6 Union 76 $ 1.699 Bucked strong wind

I guess MPG doesn't improve buy paying more.

After trip 3 I put more air into the tires (32 - they were down to 29).

I have just recently purchased a 2000 Tundra w/36000 miles. No matter how i drive; 65mph or 90mph on the highway; flying around town or pussying it, I get 12 to 12.5 mpg. No matter what I do
