Hey guys... I'm new here as you can see. First, I did a search for my question and didn't really see what I was looking for. Most of the threads that I read were for cleaning the throttle body, not replacing. So I hope it's cool to post this question!
So heres the deal... On my way to work the other day, I noticed a few times on the freeway that when I hit the gas to accelerate, my Tacoma ('98, 4cyl, auto, 204k miles) had a slight hesitation where it almost lost speed and then it jumped up in acceleration. Curious, I gave the engine a lot of gas and then my check engine light came on. Stayed on for about 5 minutes and then it turned off and hasn't been on since. I took my truck into the dealership today to get the transmission flushed (it needed it before this issue) and asked them to see what problem could be. Just got a call back and they said that it could be one of two things. One, the throttle sensor could just need to be replaced ($240 parts/labor). Or two, the entire throttle body could need to be replaced ($1030 parts/labor). My question to you all is where exactly is the throttle body/sensor located? Is it hard to replace on my own? Or is tricky enough to where I should have the dealership do it. I'm by no means a mechanic in any way but if I could save myself some coin by doing it myself if it's easy enough, I just may give it a shot. What do you all think? Thanks for all your help... Oh, and this site rocks!
