Default TRD Limited Slip Diff

I am wanting to put a TRD Limited Slip in the rear of my 2000 Tundra. I am not a "good" mechanic but I know some people that might be able to do the job. How hard is it to put one of these in? Should I find a Toyota Dealer or someone like that to put it in. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

This link has some info:

limited slip or locker

If not, search the forums, I have seen several threads that cover the install. I consider myself a novice mechanic. I have found that whatever a dealer quotes for # of hours of labor, it takes me more than 2x that to complete the work. Also, you might be able to get a warranty from the dealer on the work.

It isn't overly difficult, but the backlash and gear contact pattern needs to be checked and set by a differential shop. If either of these are off, your differentials life will be very short.
If not the dealer, look for a shop that specializes in gearing and differentials. They are around. I have three within a two mile radius of my house.
I'm going to install the TRD LSD myself and take the third member to one of these shops to get it set properly.

Are you planning on getting the complete rear pumpkin or just the Limited Slip unit itself(without the gears and no core charge). If you get the complete rear pumpkin, all you have to do is take out the old and put in the new. You don't have to worry about backlash and contact pattern, it's all set. If you get the LSD unit itself, then you have to dis-assemble the complete pumpkin. However, you shouldn't have to worry about backlash. Since, it uses all the stock pieces but, it's a good idea to get it checked anyways.

When I installed my Lock Right Locker, I didn't have to get it check, it was all 'plug-n-play'.

Here's a link of the locker install on my truck. The install took about 3 hours with 2 people. It would be very similar to the TRD LSD unit(not complete pumpkin) install.

HOW-TO: Lock Right Locker install on '00 V8 4x4 tundra
