Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "iForce explanation please?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've been seeing the iForce engine name tossed around for a while, and I've seen it badged on some Tundras. What does it mean? Is it some kind of option....or are all of teh 4.7s the same?
Maybe you are noticing the lack of the badge on the back of your truck. The 2000 model didnt have the "iforce" badge on it, that started in 2001, but the motors are all the same.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if they changed something over the years. I'd never really thought about it until just recently. Plus I parked beside a Tundra with an iForce decal on the tailgate the other day, and it reminded me to ask.

Ken
All aluminum engine? If im not mistaken, the 4.7 has aluminum heads?
According to the Toyota Tundra video I received, the "I" in I-Force stands for Intelligent throttle control. In this case, intelligent means that if you floor it, after awhile the throttle will open!

Ahh, the beauty of computers. I'll bet it would shread tires if you could reprogram that "fly by wire" throttle. I might even shread the tranny too. I wish there was a way I could mess with this function. It would probably be an ordeal though. I kind of doubt that Toyota would support the effort with tech support. That leaves a lot to trial an error.

The 4.7 engines found in the two Lexus SUVs (LX70 & GX470) and the Landcruiser are iron blocks like our Tundras. The 4.7 V8 block I have in this photo came from a Lexus. Other than minor things like different exhaust manifolds,airbox/tube,and plastic top engine cover these are the same engines. Same intake manifold, throttle body, cylinder heads.

the salesman who sold me my tundra told us the i in iforce means intelligence but i all so asked him why there were two horns under the hood and his responce was because in japan they have small ears. so i don't know

It is actually so the horn doesn't sound like the roadrunner (meep meep). They use 2 different notes and it makes it sound fuller. Just like playing a chord on a musical insturment vs. playing a single note. Cadillac's use 3 horns which is what gives them that distinct sound. I'm also going to say that 2 horns makes it louder based on the superposition pricipal.

That is the funniest stuff I've ever heard!
Real good sales pitch for the Japanese!
"Hmmm......lets see it has a 240HP V8, airbags, anti-lock breaks......oh and by the way it's equipped w/ 2 horns so you can hear it better!"
Thanks for sharing berzman made my monday a little better!
What a shame.......two whole horns, and it still sounds like the Road Runner........."beep beep". Any recommendations on some REAL horns to replace those puny factory horns?
I beleive the iFORCE means that I am so in LOVE with my TUNDRA....that I have to force myself out of it every night and leave it alone in the driveway. Because I have no garage I really feel bad about leaving it !
Just a little humor...
