Default O2 sensor replaced

42,900 miles and an O2 sensor failed. Check engine light came on this week so I took it to the dealership this morning and they found a bad O2 sensor. So, they replaced both O2 sensors under warranty. I pick it up this afternoon.

You are one of the fortunate ones. My sensor went out right when my warranty expired, and I only had 20,000k on the truck. Then a week later, the other sensor went out. $500 in two weeks

20k? Should be under warranty. In fact they said the emissions warranty is good until almost 60k miles on my truck.

I'm not sure which ones failed. Here is what they wrote on the invoice: "Tech found code P0155 O2 sensor failure on both banks replaced both banks of O2 sensors warr OP code 895131 0.6 95/71"

Thumbs down Nope!!

They wouldn't do it, they said because I was past my 3yrs, the warranty was up(3yr 36,000). They said it was something that happened a lot with both the Tundra and the Camry

Maybe it's a California law that they have to warranty emissions items longer. I have almost 43,000 miles on my truck with no extended warranty so I'm glad I didn't have to pony up the cash to have those replaced.

That's funny, just had mine replaced at 45,000 miles in N. California. No mention of the 60,000 mile emission warranty at my dealer. Do you have any information on this emission warrant in California?

From Toyota's web site:
--quote--
Federal Emission Coverage: Components under the federal emission defect warranty are covered for 36 months/36,000 miles and specified major emission control components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. Specified major emission control components under emission performance warranty are also covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. In addition, emission performance warranty is applicable for 24 months/24,000 miles in states and local jurisdictions that require a periodic EPA-approved inspection and maintenance program.

California Emission Control Coverage: In California and any other state that adopts California emission warranty provisions, performance warranty and defect warranty coverage is applicable for 36 months/50,000 miles, and specific control devices are covered for 7 years/70,000 miles.

Thanks for the info Ken, yeah I called Toyota today and they told me the same thing. Just missed the 36 month/50,000 mile warranty for my O2 sensors by 2 months. Which figures because I missed the front brake TSB by 3000 miles. Oh well, still a great truck.

Similar Situation:
47k (for 2001) and I need to replace both 02 sensors before the cat (B1 S1 and B2 S1) according to dealer. They wanted $520 to replace it! Shopping around I've found OE parts for $130 each and UV (BOSH) for $70 each.

Has anyone used the universal parts? Any problems? I'm a little skeptical that both sensors have gone out at the same time. Do you have to replace both sensors for some reason?

Also, I'm assuming these are not considered "major emission control components" so I'm out of warranty?

Kent

Seems to be a problem with Toyota's. My Tundra's O2 sensor went bad also. Seems the heating coil around the outside of the sensor pin goes bad and doesn't keep heat. Suppose to protect the sensor from carbon buildup. Not going to use Toyota's sensor anymore. You know it's a problem child.
