Here is part of what you seek. The explanation could be longer, like a helluva lot longer, but here is part of the bottom line:

Never, ever use a moly additized grease in a wheel bearing or universal joint application. Moly additized greases are primarily indicated only where extreme pressure sliding action occurs. When Moly is used in non-friction bearings the moly causes accelerated surface degradation (frosted mug appearance) of the rolling surfaces and premature bearing/race failure. The moly is actually harder than the hardened bearing surface and does not crush when the bearing rolls over it. In universal joints, in addition to surface failure, the moly centrifuges to the extremes of the bearing, blocking oil flow, causing accelerated bearing end wear.
If a single grease is being considered a non-moly grease is the safest primary recommendation. The use of both moly/non-moly specific for sliding/bearings application is ideal.
I currently have 5 failed universal joints sitting on my lab table with very low time; all were regularly greased with a moly additized grease and each failed due to the use of the moly grease.

That is from 2002, so please use the search function. Cranky moderator soapboxing aside, the bottom line is...

You're fine, just fine, using Mobil-1 synth, or Valvoline synth, or AMSOil moly-fortified synth, or Castrol semi-synth moly-d, or Green Grease, or any of the high-quality, uber-durable synthetic greases on the market. The wear test results, washout, drop point etc. of those grease are so far above the specs for the average "normal" moly-d grease that it's not going to matter...and I'd suspect that with some of those greases the need for moly-d is reduced to the point it's not necessarily worth adding to a multi-purpose grease. Viscosity is in the range of any #2 grease, so grease away. It'll be fine.

Here is the full thread. Many of these people are still around, feel free to send them a PM.

Totally in agreeance with the above. All meet performance specs. M1 Syn is OK.

One must be careful with moly in CERTAIN apps. It can actually cause MORE wear.
Even at 3%.

Yeah, I thought that was interesting. From everything I've ever read, it seems like moly-d is used like a failsafe...like if you have a shock load that would displace the primary lubricant, the moly-d helps minimize abrasion until there's grease between the parts again. That would also explain why the moly-fortified greases seem to have higher impact ratings than the non-moly greases, even tho a few of the non-moly compounds have much better wear ratings and weld points than the average moly-fortified grease.

I don't recommend Moly in needle type bearings and similar. Due to galling etc.
