Default metal vs plastic intake manifold

How come some of the newer Tundras (probably with the VVT-i engine) have the plastic intake manifold? Are they swappable with the older metal manifolds?

Probably mostly a cost issue. I am no expert but I would guess plastic manifolds are easier and cheaper to mold than aluminum. Also plastic would tend to do a better job keeping the intake charge cooler (i.e. insulated from underhood heat) and offer a weight savings as well.

The difference is more than material and aesthetcis.

The runners designs are tuned specific to each engines app.
