An I getting hosed by the dealer? (manifold and O2 sensor)
I have read several posts about getting exhaust manifolds and O2 sensor replaced. I took my truck in for a check engine light. O2 sensor was bad due to a cracked exhaust manifold. They want $1326 to fix this problem. I have 42,000 miles on my truck. Are there any options that I can pursue to get Toyota to pay or help pay, I'm only 6000 miles over my warranty. Is there a place where I can buy parts and save some money? I've heard about some of you guys getting the dealership to pay for this even if your over your warranty, but HOW????
You could buy new O2 sensors and have headers installed for way less than that!
I had my O2 sensors replaced last weekend by the dealership under warranty. I'm not sure but there may be a law in California that says the manufacturer has to cover emissions devices for 50,000 miles or so because my warranty expired 7,000 miles ago.
I have been told by Toyota Dealership personell that @ their discression on warranty items they may go @ least 10G miles beyond or more if they feel justfied.
I would download a copy of the Cracked Manafold TSB and go talk w/ another Dealer (WALK/TALK soft and Carry a BIG STICK)
There may not be a TSB, I cannot find it now. There is a lot of helpful info on this site about these OE log Mfd. cracks, including some good photos of the cracks.
One Toy. Ser. Mgr. told Me if you had a documented complaint within 36 mo. / 36G miles or a reasonabe time thereafter @ their discression they had the option to work with the Toyota Owner.
(I took this to mean they would replace verified cracked manafolds on a 2000 Toy. Tundra), @ their Discretion.
As we were discussing the cold manafold noise and exaust smell in my Tundra after about 15 min. of driving,(I run w/ the passengers window crached open to the bot. of weathertech shade most of the time until I have time to get mine fixed)
Good Luck,
JT.
PS, I am also hoping these S&S headers will be ready next month.
Isn't a TSB issued when there's an improved part or new repair procedure? The cracking headers are being replaced with the standard part and standard repair procedure...no need for a TSB.
Yes I do have a 5 year 60K mile power train warranty. However, the O2 sensor and manifolds are not covered by this warranty. (According to toyota and others on this message board)
I decided to read my 2000's warranty book again and found that If you have a California or Massachusetts Tundra with a V8, the manifolds are covered for 7 years or 70K miles. The rest of us pay for our own after 3 years or 36K.
