I have a 07 Tundra with the 4.7....Nearly all the threads on the new generation Tundra talk about the new 5.7/6 speed trans....It seems to have a few first year issues and thats one reason I was a little afraid of it. The new truck with the proven 4.7 seemed to be the way to go.
I have a few questions about the 4.7...Has anyone changed or had the timing belt changed ??? How much did it run you ??? The 5.7ers say its 800 bucks. I just dont believe that..
Are there any 200- 300k stories about the 4.7.. I plan to keep mine a long time...
I hope Im not "kicked to the curb" from this forum due to the fact I have a 07 Tundra. I think I have much more in common here....

Welcome to TS. You won't be "kicked off the curb" because you have an '07, but I really think your question would be better suited for the Engine and Drivetrain forum, so I'll move the thread to there.
It all depends on what you have done. At 91k When i did mine I replaced the belt, water pump, Idler pully tensioner upper and lower radiator hoses and heater hoses. Parts were almost 500.00 that was with my sons discount ( he is a toyota tech ). If I took it to the shop it would have been about 1100.

It's cost me alittle over $200 to get mine done. If everything checks out ok which it should, all I got was t-belt, idlers, water pump and gasket and antifreeze. Cost for install was free, did it myself. BTW, will be doing my sis' gx470 when she gets her parts.
If you bring it in, expect $600-700.

Did you use toyota parts. My son gets cost plus 10% And I didnt get that good of a deal.

There's plenty of 4.7L engine 200k mile stories, a couple of 300k stories on TS alone. Some folks have gone way past the 90k recommended mileage before changing their timing belts, without issues. I prefer to be safe. I have 173k and my '01 is still running strong, will get the 2nd belt changed at 180k.
Take it to Toyota, they will low ball you with a $450 offer. Later they call and bring up the water pump, etc.. and it can easily reach $900-$1100. Buy the parts online and take it to a shop you trust, you should save considerably(or do it yourself if you're adventurous).
The 5.7 uses a chain(x2), not a belt. Not sure their spec. on that, when it should be changed, but I'd imagine it would be greater than 90k. Something to think about.

Order mine from autozone, except the gasket is from dealer. Been yrs when I did my tundra. The highlander I just did last week was just a tad over $200. The 4.7 should be about $250, that's belt, idler wheels, and water pump. I plan schedule mine for every 100k. When I did mine I was at 110k and the belt looked perfectly fine, same with the highlander, could've ran both for another 30-40k. But both had some sign of coolent leaks at the water pump, so might as well.
