Question whining from engine compartmet

Sorry if this has already been discussed..

I have about 42,000 miles now. I have been hearing a whining/squeeling noise from the engine compartment. It normally happens on Humid/wet days. Doesn't matter what time of day it is or what the temp. is. The wetness seems to be the factor. The sound doesn't go away no matter how fast I am going or what the RPM's are..

Any help would be appreciated..

Sounds to me like you need a new serpentine/accessories belt. About $20 + labor.

Default UPDATE

After driving home yesterday I realized that I do hear the noise even when there is no humidity in the air... And the whine did go away by the time I got home... I could hear it while driving down the Interstate for quite awhile..

You think It's my belt v8Toilet? Initially I didn't think it was a belt, maybe a pully or something...?

I'm do for an oil change so I will probably have it looked at..

It's just a guess but here is a test you can try. With the engine running spray some of that belt dressing (from any auto parts store) on the belt. If the noise goes away than it's the belt. If you think it's the pulley than spray WD40 into the pulley bearing and if the noise stops you have a defective pulley.

You could just throw parts at it but that could become expensive.

Default Appears to be fixed

I was due for an oil change last week so I took it in to the dealer and had them check into the noise issue.

The SM came back to tell me the fan (surpentine) belt was causing it.

Had it changed out and the noise has been gone since...

Whose to say that was all they did to correct the problem??

You decide.

That is all they did to fix it. Belts usually last for 50k miles but its a good idea to change them every 35 or so. If they did anything else to fix it they would have told you and charged you for it.

I suppose so.. I still hear a little whining when I initially get on it. Not normal driving. Just when accelerating Quickly..

I have my suspicions if the problem has been corrected.

I've been noticing a whistling shound coming out of mine. I only notice it when I turn the truck on. It doesn't matter what time. I've already replaced the belt 10mi. ago. It will go away after I drive it a few miles. It doesn't do it while I drive it only when I start it. I've cleaned the throttle body and no go. It seems to come from the passenger side around the air filter housing. Everything seems to be fine and there are no performance issues.
