Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "2006 Tundra Oil Leak", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hi All,
First, I apologize: I know this has been discussed before on this forum, but most recent posts appear at least a year old. I am looking for more recent input.
I have a 2006 Tundra DC, 4WD, 4.7L V8. It has 18,000 miles on it. The other day I noticed a few spots on the garage floor and looked at the underside. Noticed dirty, greasy debri accumulated around the area where the engine and tranny meet. I changed the oil, cleaned up the underside, drove a few miles, and looked, and sure enough there was a fresh drop of new oil hanging from one of the bolts that connects the engine and tranny. My first thought is bad rear main seal. Anyone have any recent experience with this?
I have recently noticed this also. Not until I started doing my own oil, and actually got under the truck, did I notice it. No idea if and how long it's been going on. You got a link to the old threads you mentioned. I'd like to take a peek at them.

Thanks for the links, I read them all, and it seems I've got the same deal. My 36month just ended in Feb. But I've got an extended plan for 6yr/60k. Hope I don't need to do what those guys did...
I'll take a picture for us, tell me if yours is the same spot.

Easy access with the lift and tires. Here's my little dripper.
I last cleaned it about 2 weeks ago. So this has accumulated in that time.

I think that I have the same thing going on with my truck. About a month or so ago I began to notice a couple of small spots on my driveway. I couldn't figure out where they were coming from exactly so i just wiped off the area underneath the truck... there really wasn't much oil and it hasn't dripped since (about a week). But I guess that I better have someone look at it for me.
If anybody has the EXACT procedure for repair, it would be much appreciated.

Here's some good reading: Tundra rear main seal
I attached some exploded diagrams in the last post, they might be of some use for us as well.
