Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Is a Jiffy Lube Tranny flush suicide?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I haven't priced the tranny flush by the dealer, but whenever I get the oil changed @ Jiffy Lube, they're always touting how their tranny flush sucks all the old lubricant out. I'm @ 100k miles now in an 04 AC 2wd. Anybody have a good experience or a horror story from a Jiffy Lube tranny flush? Thanks.
I have heard of people having their tranny's flushed and when they put it in park, it never comes out again. But thats not talking about tundra's specifically, just in general

Nothing too fancy, just better than stock!
It's your truck, Mate, but I wouldn't let them flush my toilet.
Read your truck maintenance manual ... flushing the transmission is never mentioned. "Flushing" may sound good to the ear, like you're doing something healthy and rejuvenating for your transmission, but it's totally unnecessary.
Please stop going there!!!! Many of those guys aren't certified mechanics....they shouldn't even be allowed to change your oil.
Go to the dealer for a flush. It's not the worst thing, but a flush can make things worse if the trans is already compromised in some way. Or find a local mom and pop shop to do the work. Family owned shops are normally very honest, chains are not.
Just don't do Jiffy Lube for the sake of your tundra.

About four years ago, I took a '91 Toyota Supra into Jiffy Lube for a routine lube, oil, and filter. Even though I was experiencing zero problems with the automatic transmission, I allowed them to talk me in to a transmission flush (peventative maintenance.) Three days later the tranny failed, as I was cruising down the freeway...coincidence? I think not! I had to have the Supra towed to a transmission shop for repairs. A little over $1900 later, I was back on the road...good as new, so to speak.
Afterwards, I googled Jiffy Lube on my computer...you would not believe the huge number of negative comments posted about the company. I'll never go back to one of their stores for anything!

Agree with others, wouldnt let Jiffy Lube touch anything I own. I had the trans fluid flushed on my Tundra but it was done at my friends shop and we replaced it with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
I wouldn't even take a dump in a Jiffy Lube. I took my wife's car there once for an oil change because my usual place was closed. After finding oil dripping all over my garage floor, I discovered that they had put the oil filter on only finger tight. I got a bunch of clueless looks and no accountability from the staff when I went back to complain. I filed a complaint through their website, but all I got out of it was a $5 off coupon for my next visit. Never again.
I actually had Jiffy Lube leave an oil plug loose on me one time. Never again. I swore I would take my truck to the dealer for service because it was better quality. Well the dealers techs stripped the threads on my skid plate after doing oil changes there for a couple years.
I actually do almost all the service on my vehicles now because I am so picky. I would imagine some of the senior mechanics that work for toyota are pretty good but those aren't the guys changing your oil. I don't even know if the person changing your fluids at the dealership has any training whatsoever.

im about to roll 200xxx and have never changed the tranny fluid and the truck still runs like new. with no slipping or anything. I also pull a car trailer from time to time with no problems. I don't like the idea of a transmission flush. imo
even if they could physically do it correctly, i would bet a lot of money that they would probably use dexron fluid, which is not the correct fluid for an 04
