Default Possible Grease Mistake? Lithium Based vs Petrol Based

Hi folks

07 Tundra DC 5.7 4x4.

The manual calls for GCFI 2 Grease, Lithium based. I put in GCFI 2 Petroleum based grease. Is this going to be an issue?

I did this at 5k miles and after a few hundred miles I don't notice a difference. However being anal retentive I worry if I am going to mess up my joints.

Lithium-based grease usually has mineral oil in it so it is also a petroleum grease. Not sure what "petroleum based" grease means.

Greases use different additives for anti wear and anti oxidation properties. The base stock is usually a petroleum base anyway except perhaps some synthetic mixtures. You really should be fine if you do regular maintenance, just use lithium grease next time. If you are really worried simply do another grease job with lithium based greased and most of the previous grease will be displaced or have some of the new lithium grease mixed with it. In either event nothing is suddenly going to fall off, or make the wheels stop turning.

Here is a good primer on greases that you might find interesting. It has been around a while, but should still be applicable.

The 2007 & 2008 Tundra owners manual says to use:

CHASSIS LUBRICATION Propeller shafts, Spiders: Lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No.2

Slide yokes: Lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No.2 or Molybdenum disulfide lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No.2

Walmart & Kmart commonly carry Pennzoil 705 grease which meets the
"Lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No.2" specifications.

http://www.pennzoil.com/TechData/Pds...eGrease705.PDF

I personally steer clear of Bobistheoilguy because it's a site owned and
by specialty lube salesmen and bankrolled by specialty lube product companies and its goal is to get the public to use a specialty lube products (like Schaeffer's grease) that are not available in retail stores instead of a commonly available and familiar grease like Pennzoil 705
