Please Clarify if Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 is a 'Limited Slip" Product?

I'm researching this issue as I'm ready to change out the diff fluid in my '04 DC (it's 2WD, not 4x4).

I've used Mobil 1 products for years with good results, and am considering using their 75w90 synthetic fluid in the diff. Not having a lot of experience with limited-slip applications (this is my first change of one), do I or do I not need to add an LSR additive?

The site clearly says it can be used in limited-slip applications, but I'm hearing conflicting info here. Thanks...

Well, I changed out the oil (32,000 Miles) in my LSD in my 06' DC 4WD. I've been using Amsoil and only AMSOIL purchased for my Toyota's over the year's from a Guy I know. He said I could use the new 75-90 Severe gear no problem without Modifier's. Well, I have quite a bit of slippage in the morning without even driving hard. He got me some modifier and we put it in yesterday and I still have that damn slippage.
I guess I'll give it some more time to mix and after numerous figure eight's I'll just see what happen's. I'm really disappointed because after paying for a overrated product almost $36.00 for 3 Ot's and then another $12.00 for the modifier I just may have to dump it and go with what I should have in the first place. I just may be done with Amsoil after this!!!!!!!! I'm pissed off and will look into other alternative oil's. I'm thinking of looking into "Rotella."

go ahead try it without modifiers, growling sounds like dry power steering pump and not good on rear diff i suppose! i do not care what the website, Mobil Tech or bottle say, it did not work in my truck really loud. all the dealer had to do was add modifiers but instead he drained and went back to 80W90 dino with modifiers? at 60K i will put Mobil 1 back in it with modifiers and see how it likes it!

I called Valvoline several months concerning Durablend 80w90 oil in my 05 Tundra SC 4WD LS and they told me it was compatible. Today I sent an email to them and this is their response.


Thank you for your question. Yes, the DuraBlend 80w90 is a suitable replacement for your Toyota. Also, the DuraBlend Gear Oil does contain a small amount of additives for limited slip. Toyota limited slip differentials require more additive than what is put into the Valvoline product, so, you would need to add more fiction modifiers to our product. Thanks for choosing Valvoline!
The brand will not matter. Generally we recommend visiting you dealer for this extra limited slip additive, as we do not make the additive separate. The additive are packaged in 4 oz and sometimes 8 oz containers. You will only need the extra 4 oz to make this compatible to your system.
