Default Save gas with exhaust?

Have you guys got better gas mileage with aftermarket exhaust system? what type of aftermarket exhaust system are you guys using ? Can you feel a bit more performance?

I'm thinking of getting a flowmaster exhaust system For a bit more performance and Better gas mileage. getting it set up for $110 pretty good eh? If it doesnt increase mileage i wouldnt get it, Its $2.20 a gal. here in Los Angeles and probably go even higher in a few more months...

Default Going w/FM 40 w/dual outs...

Hey Toykick-

I'm having the FM 40 (Delta Flow) installed w/2.5" in and 2" outs this Thursday. I expect better sound and a little more mileage w/this install. I'll let you know how it turns out. If you live near Covina, I can even show you the install before you make up your mind. JB

Good Lord! How can you afford to drive? Is your gas different out there on the West Coast or is it more expensive because you are further away from the Middle East? Only (tongue in cheek) $1.60 here.

Toy and Jack,

I have the 40 series on mine 1 in 2 out 2.25 of piping--- I love the sound, but the gas mileage-- I haven't seen any increases. I've had it for about 3-4 months now. Maybe it's becayse I got a S/C on it

If you like we could hook up and check out each others set-up.

Most guys that upgrade their exhaust complain that their mileage actually drops. Seems to be a problem with right foot due to the sounds coming out!

Out here by Arleta -- right by the 5 and 118 junction. With the SC I've had it since December -- I have about 13200 on my truck right now ---purchased the truck in March 2002.

As for gas consumption -- like I told other people that asked about this -- I think it stayed the same. Haven't really clocked it. A full tank of gas w/o the SC I was averaging 260-270 miles with a full tank, sometimes near 290. Now with the SC I would average 240-250, but the thing is --since I had the S/C my foot has been like lead

i rather not say my age

I heard to not bother changing just the stock muffler, that this wouldnt help???? So what would help?... I'm thinking of just getting the muffler welded on and a tip with the stock piping... Is this a good idea? its cheaper ....

I have stock exhaust and I get about 350 miles to a tank with 70 percent freeway and 30 percent city. I want to change my exhaust also but if my mileage goes down thats not going to happen. I just got gas today and It was 2.30 a gallon for medium grade and that was a good deal. The question still is what will happen. I think we need someone to do an extensive test and post some results.

Thumbs up Aftermarket has to be better than OEM

I'm getting 300 miles on 3/4 of a tank now. I've gone 373 before the idiot light comes on. I'll report back after a month or so w/my new averages for mpg. I don't expect a big jump in mpg w/my
FM 40 dual outs but if I can keep the 17 mpg ave. and get a better flowing & sounding exhaust, I'll be happy.....JB

Default No MPG increase-try tires instead

Don't waste you $ on aftermarket exhausts if you want better MPG-no way.About the only practical option is to get tires with less rolling resistence.Via eyeball it might be hard to tell which tires" roll" better, but I would guess ones with less aggressive lugs-shorter with less open space in between lugs.Keep at least factory pressure in them also, some go much higher-35psi-but Toyota must have some reason for recommending 26 29,seems low,but....Luck,Charlie PS Same goes for air filters,"torque" cams etc. Bigger (taller not wider, say 265/75) tires would drop your RPMS at a given speed, and give you a little increase maybe-but your speedometer and odometer will be off.Narrower(245-235) tall 85 tires might be even better,but...
