Default Hello, new member here.

Hello. I just joined your fine site last night. I am the current owner of a '98 Tacoma 4X4 ext-cab V6 TRD. I am looking at up grading to a Tundra or a 4Runner. However I am leaning towards the Tundra as I looks like it will be better at towing and hauling bikes.

One question to former Tacoma now Tundra owners, is it easier to get to the oil filter on the Tundra then on the Tacoma. I can barely reach the one on my Tacoma. I swear if my forearm was an inch bigger around, I would have to pay someone to do it. It would be nice if I didn't have this problem with my next truck. Thanks.

Lawdog: I can't say if the V6 and the V8 are the same but if you raise the hood on the Tundra, lean over the radiator near the battery and look straight down you can see for yourself. I can reach it but the prescribed way to change the filter and check for leaks is to remove the "undercover" which is a bit of a pain I didn't anticipate. I don't know how your Tacoma is set up but I wouldn't be surprised if they are similar.

Say -- you're just the man I've been wanting to talk to. Do you have manual lockout hubs on your Tacoma?

Herb

Default Oil filter question

The 4x4 has a skid pan which limits access to the oil filter. It is held on with just 4 bolts and easily removed. With it off you don't spill oil all over it and other parts of the frame and suspension. It's really very little added effort to get it off.
