Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "07 tundra needs new differential :(", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I Took my truck in on monday to check a humming noise coming from my truck and the found that the front differential is making the noise also the service manager told me that theres been a few faulty ones on the 07 4.7 tundras Good thing its under warranty or i'll be a poor sob. lol
DANA - a US company - makes the differentials. So manufacturing defects are more common than if they were made in Japan. You can't blame Toyota management, however, because back in 1994 President Bill Clinton FORCED Toyota / Honda / Nissan to agree to start equipping the vehicles they sold in the USA with a high percentage of parts made in America and to build more factories in the USA. Bill forced this requirement upon the Japanese as a way of dealing with the trade imbalance we had with Japan. How did Bill "force" the Japanese to do this? By threatening a 100% tariff on luxury Japanese vehicles imported into the USA, effectively putting Lexus, Infiniti and Acura out of business.
Stunning that a diff can be defective, damnn thing has been in use for more than a century. Anyway, Toyota should put its "time tested" QA into Dana's production line. Toyota is no better, they keep cutting corners and so are their suppliers.
Quit blaming the US on the problems we have with are vehicles. One of the reasons I bought a tundra was because of it's build in the US. Who do you think taught Japan to build cars? The reason US vehicles have more problems than the Japanese is because they have to farm out parts to countries like China and Mexico to be price competitive with the foreign brands also Ford now has a better reliability rating than Toyota so the US parts are definitely not the problem it's all the junk we get from everywhere else. Remember also our trucks may be built in the US but their still designed and engineered mostly by the Japanese.

U must be kidding. Americans' just don't have the passion to build vehicles. Americans' could have invented the automobile/gasoline engine but then it lost it out to others thanks to pathetic quality. Look at the new compacts designed by GM (I rented one) and I hated sitting in it.. poor gas milege for a V4, pathetic upholstry and everything about the vehicle was pathetic.
Americans are quick to blame their problems on others....Yeah the parts could be manufactured in Mexico/Canada but then the American's run the QA right.. Now look at Chinese products, they will break in a determined interval.. It was designed by Americans in America to be manufactured in China to break like that... Don't blame the Chinese...
Grow up dude... Take ownership and not punt the blame on others.!!!
