Default crankbolt: final answer

I am in the middle of a timing belt swap and am up to taking off the crank pulley. I have read pretty much every thread on here and there have been conflicting reports on which way to loosen the the bolt. Is it the usual righty tidy lefty loosey or is it opposite? Anyone who has done this please chime in. some of these posts have incorrect info and can be very misleading to others.

thanks

Bear, I haven't done it but my $'s on conventional right hand thread. My manual says loosen the bolt and doesn't mention any caution about LH thread. I know others have done it so they can tell you for certain.

Normal thread! Use the starter bump method. It works great!

Some Toyota V8 owners have broken their starters or caused internal engine damage when they used the starter bump method - damage that resulted in a permanently rough engine idle. The crank pulley holder tool method is the factory approved method.
