This is a discussion thread titled "Exhaust system?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I am interested in adding a new exhaust system to my Tundra. Which system should I go with? Borla, Jardine, or Gibsen? The TRD from Toyota is just too much $$.
Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks,
RS
I had a custom catback system installed w/a Flowmaster 40
Delta Flow single in/dual out muffler. It sounds great. The shop I went to said that they actually took off more Gibson systems than they installed. You are paying for the name on the "name brand" systems you see on the aftermarket. Be sure and don't go too big w/the diameter of the piping or you will lose low end torque. Check the search forums for the name of the exhaust system you're looking at and you'll see a lot of feedback.
I have a pic of my set up you can see in my photo section. JB

I just had a VForce installed on mine. It's a Flowmaster knock off. Sounds great and neighbors have asked who I had install my new Flowmaster. $75 installed. Single in (behind the resonator) and dual out with chrome tips beside the hitch receiver. Looks great too!

I would personally go with the TRD single exit exhaust. I have duals but I fI could do it all over again it would be the single. I think steve sells the system (complete bolt on) for under 550

3 reasons for me.
1. Doesnt kill your low end like the deuces do
2. I would like to keep everything TRD (this system still comes with the TRD tip thats prety slick)
3. Cheaper than deuces
keep the look, pay less, and get more out of it.
If your looking for bragains, go with a stainless spintech dumped.
Supercharger oh yeah, headers definitely, but there is some concern with the dual exhaust. I love mine but I would want to compare the gtech numbers with the trd single and duals, see which one is produces more, and go from there. I love the look of the trd duals though, side exits bhind the rear wheels with the TRD tailpipes look good!
TRD ain't nothin but a name brand either. I got mine done for a little over 200, and it sounds better than any other tundra exhaust that I've heard. I got 2'' pipe, and still can spin the tires and scare the shizzle out the little ricers revin at me. If I could do it all over again I would just get dumps tho. These chrome tips are a biatch to keep clean. If you don't like packs I would suggest getting some other kind of straight through mufflers, the chambered flows and the like give you that patented "dronemaster" sound.

I went a similar route with a replacement muffler and a 3" turndown so you don't see any muffler tip leaving the truck and it cost me $62. I get stares from people who might not think the Yota is making that grumble.
I got several positive comments on the sound at the recent TX Tundra meet.

Sounded very nice and deep! It would be the perfect setup for me soundwise, except I am wanting the dual rear exit pipes...

I just got my flowmaster installed yesterday. I got 40 series with 3 inching pipe. I was actually shocked at the sound. I expected it to be loud but not that loud. It really rumbles.
I installed my 2.5 inch dual exhaust 50 series flowmaster (american thunder) exhaust cat back system. It sounds awesome and runs just as good if not better than the stock single setup.
between changing exhaust and tires i'm getting 19.5 mpg on 87 octane gulf gas.........i'm real happy now!!!
