Post Duel Exhaust for 03 Tundra SR5

I just brought a new 2003 Tundra SR5 StepSide, loaded with many toys except dual exhaust. I want to add this feature ASAP and would like some recommendations. Is the “Dealer installed” duel exhaust option worth the money (cost and installation runs about a grand according to my dealer...) and does it add any performance gain to my new truck?

I’m not interested in “sound” just interested in getting the most power from my truck (it will be pulling a new boat soon, aboy 6500lbs...) and perhaps a slight increase in gas mileage.

I have the extended warrantee; will I be limited to only the dealer installed option? Any comments, recommendations or additional info on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

Vince

Won't do a thing for power unless you get the headers too.

I have my exhaust and love the sound but the bottom end power loss was frustrating.

I was afraid of that.... so to get more power I will need to go with headers as well... The comment of "bottom end power loss" is alarming, since I will need bottem end power for pulling my boat out of those pesky steep and ugly ramps down in the Florida Key's.

So if I'm not willing to spend the bucks for headres at this time, your recomendation would be to keep the stock exhaust setup for now?

Thanks for your input!

Vince

YUP!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my exhaust, but I am not doing any towing or heavy hauling. I must say that I just had my 5k service and it did seem as though the dealer may have adjusted the timing because it did seem a bit peppier (if thats a word), but still not as strong as w/ the stock exhaust.

Don't get the TRD dual exhaust. It will kill your low-end torque. I lost enough low end torque so that I couldn't even spin the tires in a turn.

I spin my tires in turns all the time. I have BFG all terrains (285's) with LSD. dont think dual exhaust has anything to do with it. If you looking for power, upgrade your exhaust system, dont like duals??? TRD makes a single outlet that cheaper. Dont like trd theres other options. Headers will make your truck run better bottom line. If your concerned with towing, look in to the supercharger. itll cost you about 5000 but power is exceptional. No big differences in perfromance with just duals, sounds better and tips are nice.

I've got the TRD duals and noticed no loss of low-end torque. I didn't see any improvements down low either, but wasn't really expecting any. I can still spin the tires as easy with the duals as with the original single exhaust (it just sounds better doing it now). I pull the same hills as before with the cruise on at about 70 mph without the OD kicking out. Actually, I think it kicks out less now on the bigger hills than it did before, but part of this may be due to the engine breaking in. Above about 3000 rpm is where the improvement can really be felt with the TRD duals. But everyone's engines respond a little bit differently to various mods - just read through these forums to see that. Your truck is probably one of the quickest stock Tundras out there based on your 1/4 mile runs. Everything about your truck is probably optimized - from the intake to the exhaust. The only thing that you, and most of us for that matter, can probably do now to make any significant improvement down low in the RPM band would be a good set of long tube, small primary, equal length headers. Well, other than forced induction.

I added TRD headers and Duals and I saw a big improvement in low end torque. Who knows? The difference could be all headers.
