Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "New center bearing on driveshaft", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
For the last month or so, I have noticed a progessively worsening vibration, especially on the highway. At first I thought it was my tire balance, but after some investigating and searching on this site and Socal tundras, I found the center bearing, in the middle of the rear driveshaft, to have excessive play in it. I was able to move the driveshaft over an inch or so up and down. So I dropped the truck off at my local driveshaft shop and they replaced it. WOW, what a difference! The truck has lost most of the vibration and "feels" alot tighter. I would suggest that everyone check theirs regularly, especially if you have high miles or really hammer your on your truck.

I noticed some vibration during moderate accleration. I checked out the center bearing and there was about a centimeter or two of play in it. I might stick a camera down there and monitor the play during accleration and freeway driving.
i had the same issue with my 2 wd and these gut=ys were honest and do very good work. Home Page they will ship and spend some time with you on the phone if need be.
Great post, glad ya caught it before it caught you out in middle of nowhere! what kind of lube do you use on drive shaft? Looks like moly, just wondering!
