Default Help with Supercharger

Hi All,

My first post here - many thanks to whoever created and manages this site - I've learned a great deal here (and probably saved a lot of $$$ too) -

Anyways, I just bought a 2003 Tundra 2WD 4.7L and I love it, but, the problem is, I like it so much that I have that itch to keep making it better/faster etc. So far I have only dropped in a K&N (I don't trust the FIPK and it's bad habit of sucking in hot engine air) and cut out the original muffler and replaced it with a Flowmaster (which, in my opinion is crap). It's a delta flow 40 series and it has a nice tone up until about 2500 revs - at which point it starts to get quieter - I used to always hate Flowmasters because I always thought they actually get quieter the more you romp on the gas (at least my experience in late model Mustangs) - so Ive always been a big fan of Borla. Anyways, I wanted to avoid the dual exhaust/cat back systems because, they have a tendency to screw up your backpressure and throw off your cat-back O2 sensors, which usually causes the computer to richen up your mixture and therefore loss of torque/gas mileage - unless of course you have headers. This is why I tried to avoid a straight thru muffler, and went with the 2 chamber FM - well, I guess I'll have to try to search for something else -

Sorry for going on and on - here's my real question. I am seriously considering the supercharger (esp. since it doesn't look like they will make headers for the '03 - and the '02's are a smaller diameter so they won't fit - which also negates any chances for cat-back exhaust/etc for reasons described above) - so I'm stuck with stock with very few options here -

For those of you that have the s/c - how many miles do you have on it now? How's the reliability? Any problems? I read that there were some major kinks intitally with the s/c breaking belts, overheating, engine ping, muffed installations by dealerships, etc - have these been worked out? The problem is, there is one side of me that says I need a reliable, long-lasting vehicle without problems - but the other side of me of course is saying 'screw it!' - you only live once!! - I know the TRD website highly touts the s/c as being ultr-reliable etc - but I thought I get your guys' opinions - I did a search - but most the posts about s/c's are just people talking about the first few days of using them.

Finally, I live in San Diego (Southern California) and I'm willing to drive to Los Angeles if I have to - can anyone recommend an experienced, well-respected TRD dealership that would be able to do the install? What should I expect to pay?

Thanks again for any suggestions anyone has,

Jason

Sorry - one last question, as I was just browsing for mufflers - Borla has a ProXS series - if I order a muffler - what size will fit on the Tundra? is it 2.5"? How long should the muffler be? And what offset?

Thanks again,

Jason

Couldn't you use the same size as the flowmaster?

Yes - but I didn't order it - I just went to a garage and had it installed - I guess I could crawl under the truck and measure it...

Default Help with 2003 Supercharger

I need a photo of the passenger side of the engine of a 2003 supercharged tundra (with unichip if possible) -- I need to see if all my hoses are on correctly -- I had some work done and it does not look right
-- thanks GC

I installed my supercharger in 6 hrs. No problems yet. 24K miles on the charger with no issues. It's been UNICHIPPED from the start, since TRD stiffed armed me for an ECU. I purchased a 2003 S/C and installed it on my 2004 DC.

You put a 2003 Supercharger in a 2004 DC? Holy smokes! This needs to be a new thread. There are alot of people asking about these in a DC, but I bet they really want the SC for the 05 and 06 though. Come to think of it, the 04 DC has the same engine as the 03 AC. Still, good to know. Haven't read about too many SC'd 04's

The TRD S/C will not fit the 05-06 models because of some new piping under the intake. My kit will fit . It has been installed on quite a few of these models www.boostedtundras.com
