start up problems, smell of gas
Thanks in advance for any help. I have a '02 tundra with the 4.7. I am having a problem with starting. The truck stalls if I dont sit for 10 to 15 seconds after turning the key on before starting. It will start then just die. If I let the truck sit with the key on for a few seconds it will start on the first turn 90 percent of the time. I also have noticed a smell of gas when I exit the truck. There is a check engine light and it came up with the furl vapor valve on the emmissions system. I changed the fuel filter about 5 months ago, had a little trouble getting the rusty conections together but eventully got it. I do not see any gas dripping from the fuel filter area. How would I check to see if the filter is sealing? How hard is it to get to and change the vapor valve. Could a dirty intake be causing the problem or a clogged PCV valve? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I also have an after market gas cap. I did knock off the vaccum line that goes to the top of the motor from the vaccum box when i was changing the plugs 5 months ago but I replaced it a day later when i realized where the noise was comming from. Thanks again for your help.
