Has anyone done anything like this themselves?

Not on these trucks that I can remember. Beyond the potential difficulty of dealing with the drive-by-wire and air fuel recalibration, some folks claim Japanese engines have large enough throttle bodies and do not benefit from enlargement.

I did something like that on an old TBI Chev back in the day. I had the TBI bored 4 mm larger in diameter and made new brass butterfly valves myself. Between this and the larger Edelbrock intake manifold, it improved the quarter mile time by six tenths.

I saw a guy in the second gen forum did something similar to this and I think he also did the throttle body coolant bypass too.

I had it done on my 03 Vette- they used JB_weld liek compound to fill in the flats, and milled it all smooth- made a noticeable difference in feel when driving (much better throttle response).
The Vette is drive-by-wire too- just unbolted and re-bolted with no issues (bougth a used TB too, didn't want to mod my original unit).

It would be interesting to try on the Tundra, but I'd feel better doing it to a spare unit rather than the OEM one.

Consensus on the Vette forums is the coolant bypass does nothing- except give a better chance of freezing your throttle plate in colder climates (and make swapping TBs easier- not like you swap them every 3 days).

The reason I asked is because I went ahead and did this myself. I also did the coolant bypass mod at the same time; I live in Texas. This will make removing the TB very easy next time as the coolant hoses and the heat of the metal are the only problems with this mod.

I didnot change the diameter of the entire TB, it is still the same at the butterfly plate. I have noticed a very nice throttle response improvement. Everyone should do this and the O-ring gasket mod before you bother with the intake. Have you looked at how many ridges there are in the TB that create a turbalent (sp?) air flow?

I did not get to take care of the screws as well as the company of the web page like this would have, as I could not get the screws out. So I just ground them down, and smoothed it out as much as I could. They also would have removed the entire half-round spindle portion at the front of the butterfly plate.

Also see my photo gallery for more narration.

I drove it right after I finished the install and noticed nothing. But after I reset the computer I did notice the quicker acceleration.
