Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Is it possible i can have a 2000 tundra..", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
v8 limited trd 4wd , that was build with 2001 drivetrain. The reason i ask is because i went to change my filter in the trany and recieved the wrong one for a 2000 tundra. (it was much smaller0 than the one that was factory installed. The sales clerk at my auto parts store looked up the 2001 tundra filter application for the same truck and it matched what i have in my truck.Plus another thing that i question is that both wheels spin in the rear when i apply the brakes lightly when i'm in the snow, i thought 2000 didn't come with a limited slip diff. Can someone have an answer for this.....is it possible i have a 2001 production trans and rear end in my 2000 trd v8 4x4?????
Thanks , Mark
??? - There is no filter in the Tundra tranny - screen yes, filter no. LSD was first available OEM at the end of the '01 model year, however an aftermarket LSD is possible. Did you buy your Tundra new?

i just recently bought it used...43,000 mi. Yes it is a screen, not a filter, sorry about that.Is there an explaination for why my screen application is the same as a 2001 and not a 2000 like i have?
Is it possible my truck was biuld with 2001 drivetrain because of 2000 parts shortage and possible upgrades...just wondering?

Mark - I was curious and wanted to verify the year/model info on your truck. Sure enough VIN say's '00 SR5 V8. I checked for info on the tranny filter/screen part, but I could only find a single part # for the V8 auto tran in my reference library of materials on the Tundra. Toyota built 114,724 Tundra's in '00, so I don't think yours is a late model year build.
Are you sure the parts store guy didn't make a mistake?

GLENN, Thanks for your help, i did go to (2) other parts stores to double check screen part number and yr of application and they all had the same yr truck 01, that gets the longer i'd say 10"x5" rectangular looking screen. Is it a possibility the tranny has been replaced, and uprgraded to the 01 yr ??????.
By the way, i tried the thumping in the rear fix, i greaseed all the zert fittings, especially the yoke fitting , i pumped about 40 times til grease started pushing out slightly. It took care of my thump in the rear problem....thank you!!
Mark - none of the collective information I have on the Tundra shows any change in the part number for the screen in the tranny between '00 and '02. I can't comment on '03, because I don't have as much info on the '03 model year as I do on previous model years.
From info that I have checked there is a difference between the filters for V6 & V8. But I have nothing that shows differences between the '00 and '01 model years.

My VIN production number is 48,000 and yours is about 20,000. Mine was built Dec '99, so yours must have been built maybe in the summer or fall of '99.

Montfort, the build #'s I quoted was for Model Year 2000. SO that includes vehicles built in calendar yar '99 & '00.

I drove one of the factory prototypes in about April of '99, I believe it was. I also have a photo copy of a dealer invoice for S/N 1027 that I obtained in July of '99. The date on the invoice is a little hard to read, but looks like 06/21/99. This truck was a white access cab with a V6 engine. It also had the 3 spoke alloy wheels which I haven't seen a lot of. Lon's Tundra has a real low number; we could always ask him when it was built. There should be a sticker on your driver side door jamb that has the build date.

I belive I got one of the first Tundra Limited up here in the Northwest. I got it in August 99 and the production date shows 8/99. Limited were about four to five months behind the SR5's. Mine has everthing including additional Limited options on it. Real nice ride. Not like what used to come from across the pond though. I did get it for $29,096.00 which I think was a great deal from my dealer.
On inch lift to level the truck. F&N filter, JB headers, Borla exhaust, Hellwig bars, Firestone sport bags, M/T wheels and all chrome letters and numbers removed.
