Salesmen don't know jack. They'll say anything to make a sale.

The sales manager was talking to one of the dealer mechanics no one was around but me. I have no reason to think he was full of it. This salesman didn't even know about the crewcab, thats what the topic of discussion was in the first place. I was getting my truck seviced they had no clue I was listening. When they were done talking I confronted the mechanic he said that Toyota keeps them in the dark until the very last minute when it comes to new products.

Default Diesel engine

I thought I had seen Landcruiser diesels on the Crocodile Hunter show, and sure enough, I saw them (6 cyl. turbo) on Toyota's Australia page. Here is the link: www.toyota.com.au. I would imagine that Toyota might try and bring an emission-friendly version to this country at some point. I wouldn't mind, as long as it is one of the next generation diesels, that are more quiet.

Correct me if I am wrong...but at 4.2L, that sounds like a very old engine in the Toyota line-up. I think that is actually the displacement of the old inline 6 in the LC of yore as well.

Most likely would never pass emissions here.

Interesting to read that Ford abandoned its diesel project with Navistar for their 1/2 trucks.

It has been mentioned in several auto trade publications that Navistar is now searching for a home for its new product (V-6 Diesel).

Could Toyota be looking???????

Default Ford and Navistar

I didn't hear about this. I thought they had planned to offer the "baby diesel" engine in the new Ford Expedition as a way to boost overall mpg.

Ford and Navistar parted ways on that one and there was even a mediated settlement to Navistar to compensate them for their development of the engine.

Ford is making all the wrong moves right now. That would have been killer in the Expy and F-150.

Again...now that it has been developed, Navistar is shopping for a manufacturer to install it so I hear.

Just hope it does better than the NEW Powerstroke (6.0L). My dealer is a combo Ford/Toyota and they tell me of all the nightmares about this new motor and the problems they are having.

Default Toyota Hilux diesel

Im from South Africa and we got the Toyota Hilux over there with the 3 liter 4 cyl turbo diesel.Very nice and pretty strong for a 4 cyl.Its the South African version of the Tacoma, more or less.So I know Toyota is very capable of building a excelent diesel engine.Check out this site www.toyota.co.za

International (changed their name back from Navistar a short while back) has been having a tough time getting good 6.0 engines to Ford. When they get their factory running right and getting good engines out, these will be great engines.

It would be really good for Toyota to get the 4.5 Litre Powerstroke V-6 if the weight is OK for the existing Tundra...the transmission, differentials, etc., can be changed to beefier units to handle the torque. If the weight of this engine plus stouter drivetrain parts is too heavy, then a new truck would have to be designed with only a few parts like the body carried over from the existing truck. Ford does offer their 7700# GVWR F-150, while the Tundra GVWR is only 6080# or whatever. The 7700# GVWR truck is much better suited to a heavy engine.

It is interesting that this came up. About few months back I was getting my oil changed at a local Toyota deal here in Houston and one of the sales reps told me that she had heard of a diesel version of the Tundra coming in either the '05 or '06 model. I have no idea if this is true but it does seem to be making the rounds at the dealerships.

If I could dream about a domestic made diesel for Tundra, I would choose a ISB 3.9 over PS 4.5 .

Sequoia2003 has little shameless behaviour in the past.
Default How about Caterpillar Diesel Motors?

Dodge has Cummins with the "C" badge, how about Caterpillar Diesel Motors for Toyota!

Wouldn't that look bad *** with a CAT badge on the side of the Tundra in bright yellow.

Maybe Toyota could use this engine for their next 3/4 ton pickup.
http://www.caterpillar.com/products/...k_engines.html 330 HP with 860ft lbs of torque.
