Default K&N FIPK and HELIX combine

Please let me know someone.
I have installed K&N GENII FIPK.
HELIX POWER TOWER throttle body extension was also purchased. It is thought that processing which cuts the intake tube of K&N short is required to install this.
I worry.
that it install HELIX and the positive improvement in a performance can be expected.

Positive improvement in performance? You're kidding.

Just burn your money and you'll save postage.

These gizmos just increase the induction noise. If it's that much noisier, you've got to be going faster, right?

Thanks KEN;
Install HELIX will stop and it will sell off at an auction.

I installed the Performance products helix spacer and did not notice any gain in power or mileage. A freind said that I had bought the "wrong brand" and bought me the Poweraid spacer. I did notice a .5mpg increase with an empty truck and it does not downshift as often on slight grades as it did before. I did not notice any significant noise after installing. Keep in mind that I live at 7000ft and this may be the reason I noticed a small power increase! I had to cut 3/4" off the upper hose for clearance.

I installed the Helix power tower about 6 months ago and noticed an increase in throttle response. Last month I installed the K&N FIPK and had some trouble with clearance of the fan shroud and the new intake tube so I had to notch the shroud. This fitting problem puzzled me at the time. When I started up the engine the fan blades were hitting the tube. I finally realized that the Helix shoves everything forward about an inch. The fan blades are supposed to miss the tube because it has a notch molded in it. I was not going to give up after all of this, so I merely cut of the corners of the plastic fan blades. The K&N FIPK kit is the best improvement I have done to date for performance. It not only sounds awesome (like 2 four barrel carbs kicking in) but the power increase is unreal. On the freeway if you romp on it say at 60, your are at 80 mph in a heartbeat.
Install and Enjoy. Please note that I put on 305x70x16 tires and the size tended to lug down the engine, so I would have to take it out of OD on hills. The above add-on's have mostly eliminated having to do this. Can anyone tell me where lower ring & pinion gear sets are available for Tundra's, say 4.27's or 4.56's? thanks.

As the resident K&N Naysayer, as a lube engineer I would highly recommend you run an oil analysis on your used engine oil to make sure the K&N setup is providing adequate air filtration for you and your operating environment. In many cases the K&N allows an engine life shortening level of abrasives in the engine; one $15 oil analysis will tell you. If engine life is of importance...

Did you ever do an oil analysis before putting a k&n in and then followup with another analysis on the same truck after the k&n has been in use?

Where could I go to get an oil analysis? Wouldn't a lab of some sort have to do this?

You can order an analysis sample kit from http://www.avlube.com
The cost of the kit includes the analysis. You just take a sample during an oil change and mial it in. They mail you the results in about a week.

I have used them multiple times for oil samples, during my air filter test.

never had to do an ananlysis never had a problem, i figured after 5 baja 1000's on the same motor there was no need to check for dirt in the oil

Do not use the K&N FIPK. Save your money. My before and after dyno runs proved it to me.

Touchy/feely/ forget it! IMHO if you can’t back up what you say, I’m not interested in hearing what you say.

Well Gil congratulations, dont use it. I really dont care. I am sticking by and yes we are using it again this year in the baja 1000. Oh by the way ever been to glamis? Find me a sandrail without k&n, I just think its kinda funny how you say it doesnt work when the guys put upwards to $60,000 into there sandrails and they all have the same k&n cone style with the outerwear on them. I guess they dont know what they are talking about either. Oh well its your opinion and sorry i just disagree. Oh yeah let me know when you are in the area and we can race, I think i might be able to pull you with 33's.

tundra gil,
Could you please post your dyno numbers? I would really like to see how much the FIPK affects the torque and hp. curves. thanks.

For those of you who have decided to purchase the K&N FIPKII and are shopping prices on the 'net....so far, I've found it at Summit for 244.90, including shipping. Anyone find anything lower?
Regarding the discussion below, as nhparrot pointed out in his air filter tests, the K&N will not filter out dirt as well as the OEM filter. That's an undisputed fact.
I currently have a TRD air filter, but am willing to make the tradeoff of "more dirt" (and lots of air) for increased hp and response, albeit real or imagined. The "noise" as someone described below in the FIPK II is just another tweak I'd like to add to my toy.
I enjoy my Tundra and am realistic enough to know that some of these mods result in minimal gains, if any.
Am I throwing money away? Probably, but I'm having a hell of alot of fun with my truck and that makes it all worth it
