Default Power Trax locker install follow up

The installation today was, in a word, unexpected. I finally got all the tight bolts loosened and got the 3rd member (the actual differential) out. Just when I was ready to put the actual locker in, I found out the ring gear was blocking the pinion shaft's way. Reading the fine print on power trax's installation manual "On some models with low axle ratios the ring gear's thickness may prevent you from removing the pinion shaft, in which case you must remove the ring gear first blah blah"... There were four bolts holding the ring gear, and after much effort I realized the 3rd member must be held still while I attemp to loosen the bolt.

To make a long story short, I reluctantly gave up in the end. Put everything back, and even pour the old oil in. I'm not gonna mess with this any more. I called a few local shops but those mechanics didn't seem to know sh*t. I finally called this guy called John in South San Francisco and he seems to be good at this. I'll take the tundra to his shop on Wednesday.

After the reassembly I gave her a little test drive. The brakes obviously need to be bled, but I guess I'll leave it John, and in the mean time I'll just drive real slow.

If only I had the right tools.
