Default Tacoma and Tundra front diffs. Same??

I'm Curious if a Tacoma front diff and a Tundra. Are they same? I know the systems are very simular, I wonder if they are the same with a spacer here or there? Reason i ask is I have a spare tacoma front diff and was curious if i could make my wifes Tundra 2x4 a 4x4.. Probally to much trouble anyways.. If someone knows could you pass the info on?

There is too much involved to get into but you would need a transfer case, front drive shaft, and all the computer stuff to go along with that, not to mention that the tacoma front diff is not as wide as the tundra. I don't know exactly how they widened it but if I were you I would get 2 trucks and put them side by side and look for any diffenences. Most people buy the 2x4 and want the 4x4 later, but at much more expense.

I think they are, I don't have any certainty here, but I think that the front diffs for both vehicles are the toyota 7.5" diff, and the rears are both the 8" diff... BUT, the main difference btn the front diffs of tacos and tundras are that Tacos don't have (I don't think) ADD (they have manual hubs) and Tundras do...

If you want 4x4 just trade it in and get a 4x4. It's much less expensive that way.
Jwitz - Tacos and 4Runners do have ADD. Only some Tacos have manual hubs. The remaining Tacos and all 4Runners have the permanent hubs. There's so many parts to replace to swap to manual hubs that it costs over $1000 for Tacos and 4Runners to swap to manual hubs. If the front diffs really are the same, ARB's new RD90 front locker will fit the Tundra, too - should be out in a month or two.
