Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Gas Milage with Supercharger", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was wondering what kind of gas milage are people getting with the TRD supercharger as opposed to stock MPG?
I am thinking of getting the S/C but drive a long distance daily and really don't want a major decrease in milage and the additional cost of premium gas. Any input would be appreciated.
Most people do not worry about gas mileage when they add the S/C. It actually is the opposite. How fast can I go from here to there, which does not promote good mileage, is the objective.
I plan to add the S/C, but gas consumption or savings (too tempting to play with the S/C kicking in) is not in the equation. Another way to look at it.

If your being pretty light footed (when you want or have to) the supercharger will improve your mileage. But you put 92 in it so you basically even out ior loseout if you were a former 87 drinker.

Good point. That is what my comments were about. To tempting not to use the S/C and have it kick in, therefore, more consumption. But, what the heck...

Yes, I was looking for before and after numbers. I get 16 MPG consistantly right now. I see other people who get much less with a stock motor. If they get 12 with it but only got 13 - 14 without it I would say that is pretty good. I drive 70 miles a day to and from work so I have to think of the cost long term.
I asked the same questions before and after the ECU upgrade came out. Before the fix, I remember people saying maybe 8mpg if they were lucky and the truck was running terrible. after the fix in between 12-15 mpg and that didnt matter whether it was a 2 or 4wd. I get about 14-16 with 4wd. The only thing I hate is seeing the fill up price 50 and above!!!!

TRDKEAU, i was one of the people that probably shared that mileage was as low as 8 with crap first ecu. i had probably averaged 14 around town with a lead foot racing riceboys in hondas and such in anchorage before the s/c.
with the "fixed" s/c in wyoming, i can get 18 if i have no lead foot going the speed limit with no inspired passing on trips to denver. probably average 12 or so around town, but don't pay too much attention.
jbtoy does have a great point about mileage with a s/c. add that i am a drilling engineer the power is well worth it. drive as hard as you want, we will make more.

Jeff,
this is when the v8 charger first came out.. The ECU's were bad and the tundras with the supercharger were getting 6-8 mpg and running terribly. TRD has sent out the upgrade for the 00-02 models to everyone that had the bad chip and now they come stock with the upgrade.
