Default Pinging when accelerating

I have a new Tundra V8 with 400 miles on it. Whenever I accelerate quickly I get a lot of pinging. Sounds like lifters from the old days. I've never had a 32 valve V8 and don't know if this is a common noise.

Only one way to find out! Fill the tank next time with 93 octane and see if it goes away. If it does than you know it's pinging. Pinging sounds like a bunch of bb's in the engine.

No modern engine with a correctly functioning computer control system will ping. Either you're hearing something else, or some electronic component is kaput.

Thanks guys. It does sound like BB's when I accelerate, thats a great description. I will try a high octane and see if that helps. If not, I'll run it by the dealer.

hey guy's, i've posted the same problem a few ago....and had the dealer check it out. Come to find out the idler pulley is causing the noise that sounds like pinging or bb noise. My tech here in conn called the rep in cal to find if there was a tsb on it.He said there is no tsb cause it's only a small percentage with the problem.I'm having mine replaced next week.

I'll have that checked out if the gas dosen't make a difference. I wouldn't have thought a pulley would make that noise, but who knows. Let me know if replacing it solves the problem. Thanks for the info.

I have the ping thing in my Trundra also. The 93 gas does not help. But if I add octane booste the ping goes away. The dealer didnt offer any help to me. My last fillup I used 89 gas and the ping went away. I wonder if it has to do with the summer blend of gas.

Possible the summer gas couldd be a problem. When I get the tank low I'm going to fill it with Sunoco high octane and see if that helps. Expensive gas, but one fillup won't kill me.
