Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Squeaky noise from pulley?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My 2002 Tundra V8 has developed an annoying squeak that appears to be coming from the drive belt pulley. It diminishes when there is torque on it, such as selecting A/C on. Has anyone else had this, and would it be covered by Toyota warranty?
Yep. Same problem. Started at about 44k miles and only squealed when it was cold outside. Progressively got worse until I had it replaced last Friday. Now all is quiet again! It's a damn shame the belt wouldn't last past 46k without squealing like pig. Obviously I was out of warranty, but I got the factory belt for $17 and put it on at my dad's shop.
I dig your name....but since you're in Georgia, I have to assume your name doesn't refer to THE USC, the one with allllll those Rose Bowl wins and Heismann Trophy winners.

E.D. Joe, while we don't have the bowl tradition of the other USC, we do have our Heismann winner- George Rogers. Remember him? We did, however, beat OSU 2 years in a row 2000-2001 in the Outback bowl. Won't talk aboot last year. But..... I can vividly remember the left coast USC coming to visit us back in the 80's, when we whipped you guys soundly. We were chanting "U-S-C! U-S-C!" as your team was leaving the field. The game was billed , "Cocks vs. Trojans".
The RacerX part of my handle is, well, defined by my avatar. Sure wish I lived close enough to race Laguna, Willow and Infineon.
My '03 developed a squeak at about 40K. At first, I thought it was the tensioner pulley. I dropped the belt off and turned the pulley by hand, and it turned smooth and noise free. I replaced the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback, and the noise went away immediately.
my belt started making noise right around 30K miles. toyota had redesigned the belt right about then to use a v-ribbed design. i installed the newly designed belt and its been quiet ever since. i seem to recall there was a tsb indicating the new belt design (this was a while back), but i could be wrong.
You just might need a belt My 2000 tundra did the same early in the
morning had it fixed at the local toyota dealer here in macon
dont think the pulley was replaced.
